Hi Everyone. I am having a problem trying to find my Great Grandfather in Cork Ireland. On any census and on his death cert he claims to be from Cork or just Ireland. But my biggest problem with him is his birth date..he states 4 of them..1814/1816/1819 and 1820. But it has also been stated that he arrived in Nova Scotia in 1825..which seems impossible as I can find no other record of arrival for any parents, unless they died on the way across the puddle. He was a Liveryman by trade and also an artist as I have one of his paintings and it is unbelievably beautiful. His wife was Anne Graham born 1830 in Ireland?? and she arrived here in 1850. I have census records for 1881, 1891, 1901 and after his death in 1911 when he appears no more having died in 1910. The names of his children are Mary Ann, Margaret, Bridget, Daniel(who apparently went back to Ireland) and Annie..these may be names of siblings also. His grandchildrens names are James, Daniel and Margaret There are more grandchildren but I just included the repeat names. In my 30 years of searching it appears that GGrandfather does not want to be found and is pulling strings so that I do not achieve this goal. James was married in Nova Scotia and all his children born here. Should I keep my search in Cork or go elsewhere. My Dad always spoke of Cork and was proud of his Father. I have a pic of James and he was a BIG man..tall and very broad shouldered..must come from dealing with Horses. Can anyone help me with clues as to where else to search..www.irishgenelogy.ie has not been very helpful and rootsireland is just tooo expensive..especially when they want money up front and I don't know if the info is going to be of any help..sot of like going shopping for clothes with a blindfold on. THANKS for any help. Rita in Prince Edward Island.
