Mary, I agree with Jack, in as much as I would also look at the name Whooley. In the Griffith's Valuation there is just eleven Whooley's listed in all of Ireland, all being in County Cork. Therefore I found the following Whooley's. Catherine , Civil Parish of Ballinadie. Cornelius, Civil Parish of Kilbrittian. Daniel, Civil Parish of Kilbrittian. Denis, Civil Parish of Desertsergis. Denis, Civil Parish of Kilmacabea. James, Civil Parish of Kilcoe. Laurence, Civil Parish of Desertsergis. Margaret, Civil Parish of Kilbrittian. Michael, Civil Parish of Kilcoe. Timothy, Civil Parish of Kilbrittian. William, Civil Parish of Kilbrittian. To further narrow it down perhaps you may want to look at the naming pattern of the children. Hope this helps. Hi John, It looks like 3 of those names are mentioned as my G/grandfathers children. Actually, I should put all their names on this list and someone who is feeling a bit brighter this Sunday morning than I, might be able to put names together. Here goes... Mary - I'm going thru my research, unfortunately Whooley is not one of the 30 surnames that I'm researching around Skibbereen/Baltimore. However, I do have Whooleys in my family tree, and in some land research I've done. So here's what I can find: O in 1860, the following Hooley's had land in Lettertinlish, Skibbereen [just outside Skibbereen, known as Letter now]: Patrick, John Mary and Jeremiah. The surname in the land records was spelled Hooly. O in 1880s, there was a Margaret Hooly, John Hooly (Long) and John Hooly (Little) and Patrick Hooly in Lettertinlish. O in 1940s, the name was spelled Wholley and Whooley, although the name Hooly still appears in Lettertinlish. O in 1980s, there was a Denis P. Hooly and Josephine Hooly in Lettertinlish. 0 I believe there are still Whooleys in Lettertinlish. You might try to find them at eircom phone directory online, and write them. O There's an Emmett Whooley who lives in Lisheen, Skibbereen currectly. O I have an Ellen Whooley born in 1870 who married Michael Minihane [changed surname to Monahan]. Michael was from Ballyally, just east of Baltimore, not far from Skibbereen. Don't know where Ellen was born, but probably not far from Skibbereen. She died in Massachusetts. Had first child there in 1898. Sorry, I don't have more extensive info, but I do think that the Hooley is the same as Hooly, Whooley, and Wholley. Mary, If it was me, I would concentrate on William and Timothy where there was a William and Timothy Whooley from Parish of Kilbrittain in the townland of Kilshinan which is in South West Cork in the Diocese of Cork & Ross. Hope this is of some help.
