    3. Hi Maryann, My John Dacey was born in NYC or Brooklyn abt 1867 and I've not been very successful in filling out the Dacey branch. I believe that his parents were born in Ireland but I can't even prove their names for sure yet - they are quite elusive in the census records, and with names like John and Mary it is hard to pinpoint them. A Nora J. Dacey was a baptismal sponsor for one of John's children, so she may have been a sister or some other relation, but I can't find her anywhere either! Don't you hate it when they hide so successfully? If I find a connection, I will surely let you know. 3. I am also interested in finding out more about Codrum House, Macroom - I read recently somewhere that it is derelict - it was the address at one stage in the early part of the 20th century of the family of my mother's great-aunt and her husband, Mary (nee Dennehy) & Samuel Welply Baldwin, and I was wondering if anyone knows why it was allowed to fall into disrepair? Thanks Caroline

    1. [Irl-Cork] MURPHY, CARROLL and MORGAN
    2. Ellen Margaret MURPHY married John CARROLL, probably in West Cork area, around 1820. There were at least 3 sons and a daughter from that marriage - John (1821), Maurice (abt 1825), Eliza (abt 1827) and Myles (1831). It is assumed John Carroll Sr. died abt 1830/31 and Ellen then married Henry MORGAN abt 1831. At least two more sons came from the second marriage- Thomas and Henry MORGAN (1832 & 1836) Four of Ellen's sons are known to have traveled to Australia. John CARROLL was transported to Australia on the HYDERABAD in 1849. After he served his time in Tasmania, he moved to Kyneton in Victoria in the early 1850's and ran a grocery store. In the mid 1850's, he was joined in Kyneton by his half brothers Thomas & Henry MORGAN who farmed nearby in Barfold and Emberton. Myles CARROLL is believed to have married and been widowed in Ireland. He traveled to Australia in 1864 and also farmed in the same area as his half-brothers. Researching and looking for any connections - thank you Pat Morgan - sunny Tucson, AZ

    1. [Irl-Cork] BUCKLEY SCANNELL HAYES (Cork to Wales to Pittsburgh)
    2. John Steitz
    3. My prime target is John Buckleyb1829 +/-, son of Michael Buckley of County Cork. John married Mary Scannell b1832 in 1852 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. She was daughter of Edward Scannell. They parented 8 children in Merthyr. John worked in the ironworks. The works began to close to 1859 and they struggled to maintain consistent work. In 1870 John left for New York. Mary and the 4 surviving children followed in 1872 landing in NY harbor in May. From NY they quickly came to Pittsburgh where John found consistent work in an iron mill. Thousands others made a very similar migration. They shared their mill housing in Pittsburgh with 2 other families who made similar trecks. Church witnesses and sponsors were surnames Minihan, Goggin, Harrington, Donohue/ Donohoe, Coleman & Carty. Shared housing with a Barry family. I predict I will find the family origin somewhere in the Bandon River drainage or slightly north towards Macroom but to date no Cork connections on any of this family or its supporting cast. I also have a Joseph Hayes family who left County Cork in the mid 1860's and went to Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales. They also came to Pittsburgh in 1870's. These family groups share 2 marriage connections yet lived in 2 different Irish communities of Pittsburgh.

They had 7-10 children according to the US census, I know of 6, all of these 6 immigrated to Cambridge Ma as did Catherine in 1906. Mullaney & Forrest family of Ladysbridge. John Mullaney married Margaret Forrest and had 4 children. Mary and Johanna came to the states. Mary believed to have dies in Elizabeth NJ and Johanna came to Somerville Ma. 2 brothers Michael and Edmund, unknown what happened to them. And that is my Cork family! Cheryl

    3. Thank you so much Andrew for all the efficient and constant work. And to Chris for taking it on. I am researching DAUNT: my ancestor Howard Gillman Daunt lived and worked in Dublin, but I think may be the son of a John DAUNT who was a shoemaker in Cork City, Paul Street in 1809. His wife may have been Harriett DANCKERT. CoI. No baptism record found, just a few circumstantial clues. Possibly the poor church mice of the grand Kinsale family. All clues very welcome - had had many contributions from this list. Thank you all, and Good Luck! Caroline

    1. [Irl-Cork] Michael and Julia (PHELAN) FITZGERALD early 1800's
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello, Just wanted to remind researchers that our family-friend seems to go back to a couple, Michael and Julia (PHELAN) FITZGERALD, reportedly from County Cork. I'm thinking they might have been born around 1830. They had a son, John, b1858, and a son, Michael, born 1865, in Ireland. In 1878 the 2 brothers came to Massachusetts, and I don't know whether they came over alone or with their parents. The brothers both married in Boston, MA, ~1880. John married Catherine Mary SMITH, and had 2 sons, but they both died during the 1890's. Their teen-age sons had to go live with their aunt and uncle. Michael married Margaret ADAM, and they had 2 children. Our family-friend is descended from John's son, Michael A. FITZGERALD. I wish I could find descendants of this extended family. They initially lived in the Haymarket Square part of Boston which borders on the "North End" part of Boston. The "North End" is where the relatives of "Honey Fitz" FITZGERALD settled during the 1840's. They had come from County Limerick. (I'm told, if there was a connection, it would have been back in the 1600's or 1700's.) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

    2. Priscilla asks: === The place she has is District of White Church, Cork. She also saw Knockahoyan. She isn't sure of the spelling. What or where is this? Also she thinks they lived on Factory Road. Does anyone have any hints for us? === Priscilla, Not much more than a hint, so far. Whitechurch is a small town/village (and civil parish) located 4 miles NNE of Blarney town and 6 miles NNW of the center of Cork City. The civil parish of Whitechurch is part of the RC parish of Blarney. There are a couple of Knock-xxxx townlands in the parish, but nothing resembling Knockahoyan. The use of the term "District" probably means one of the various Dispensary/Registrar's Districts - but others will have to advise you about that. In any case, I'll keep looking. I don't have a clue about Factory Road. The name would seem to imply a location in or near a town - perhaps Blarney. I'll do some more browsing. If you have any other hints, let me know. 3. Chris, thanks for taking on this task! My great-great-grandfather was Timothy CREEDEN from County Cork, born in 1846. The name is often spelled CREEDON.
