That should have his parents' names on it. You have his date and place of death, so a call to the appropriate office followed by a written request and whatever the fee might be, should get you that information. Ann

    3. Hi Renee--you might search for your family surname in that Desertmore Parish in the 1827 Tithes and Applotments through the LDS films at familysearch.org. Many RC parish records go back as far as 1810. I do not know about your specific Parish records. Perhaps you can find them in Ireland to research. Good Luck! MURPHY, born 17 Mar 1816 in the Parish of Desertmore, Co. Cork. I would like to know who his parents were. He emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada about 1852 and later settled in Rock Co. & Dane Co., Wisconsin. He married Catherine MAHONEY, b. 20 May 1820 in Kilcrea, Co. Cork and had 10 children. He died 28 Dec 1900 in Rock Co.,Wisconsin. Are there records available for the 1816 time period so that I could find his parents' names? Any suggestions appreciated. 1. HANNAH MADAN = EDWARD CRICKMORE
    2. Hello everyone An impossible question I imagine but you never know unless you ask! My 3xgt-grandmother was Hannah MADAN. She was born ca 1820 in Cork - no, I don't know exactly where. She married Edward CRICKMORE, bn ca 1812 Suffolk. I would love to find her birth and marriage. I have no idea where or when the latter took place and I have done a pretty full search of the Sheffield area where their first known child was born - James CRICKMORE, 20 February 1840 at Sheffield Barracks. Edward was in the 1st Royal Dragoons - they had five children in all born all over the UK... I have quite a lot of info about the family this side of 1840 but I don't think it's going to help this search. If anyone could help, I can't tell you how grateful I'd be. They've been my brick wall for too long. Otherwise, can anyone point me in the right direction? I realise many Irish records were destroyed but am not totally au fait about when... Many thanks in anticipation. Regards Jane Birmingham, UK

    2. Help Please I have a relative Samuel Jones b. abt 1863 @ Queenstown. His father Robert, Jones may have been in the military. his mother was Bridget ( Quinn ) Jones. I now find he was baptised at the RC church @ Passage West which is a few miles from Cobh (Queenstown), on the other side of the river. I am trying to find out if his baptism record would give his parents location as I am trying to find where his parents were from and which branch of the military his father was in which may give his regiment so that I can obtain his military history. Many thank John

    1. Daniel O'CONNELL, the Liberator, Family Tracts
    2. Sheila Taipale
    3. Hello O'Connell cousins! Here again is the website for "The O'Connell Family Tracts, 1, 2, & 3" by Basil Morgan O'Connell. These pamphlets record descendents of Daniel O'CONNELL, the Liberator, their marriages, children, etc. to about 1950. There is an index for each pamphlet which gives all the surnames of these relations. http://www.irish-cottage.net/oconnell/index.htm In addition, for a more detailed and complete history of his immediate family, read "The World of Mary O'Connell, 1778-1836, by Erin I. Bishop. She includes at least one child, if I remember correctly, who is not shown in the O'Connell Family Tracts. It is a fascinating study of social and domestic life in Ireland in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Good luck hunting - if you find you are related in any way, please email me off list, because you will probably be a cousin of mine! Daniel O'Connell was my grandfather's gr grandfather, and Mary O'Connell, of course, was his gr grandmother. Sheila O'Connell Taipale sheiladay@cox.net PS: I posted the Tracts with the permission of the family of Basil Morgan O'Connell, the author.

    3. Hi, John- How many churches would you like? There were (and are) six churches within a mile or two of 180 N. 8th in Brooklyn. Sts Peter and Paul -1843 St. Vincent de Paul -1860 Annunciation -1863 St. Cecilia- 1872 Holy Family -1880 (2) To find these addresses and phone#'s go to this URL: http://www.dioceseofbrooklyn.org/cgi-bin/pa_Search.pl leave the info part blank and click search -that will give all 122 churches in the Brooklyn Diocese. To find where 180 n 8th is, use mapquest, type in the 180 n 8th address, and tell it to mark the churches nearby. Have fun!! Ann

    1. Mahoney, Brooklyn, NY 1886
    2. JOHN MYERS
    3. My grandmother emigrated to Brooklyn, NY circa 1883 from Kildorrery RC Parish, Co. Cork. She married Patrick Myers, also from Kildorrery RC Parish, about 1886 (the 1900 US Census reflects that they were married for fourteen years at the time of the Census). I have no address for her at the time of the marriage nor do I know the Parish. Lain's Brooklyn Directory, Year Ending May 1st 1887 has the following information: 'Mahoney, Honorah silk fac 180 N 8th'. This would be a residential address. Does any one know where in Brooklyn this address is and which Parish would cover the area in 1886? Since the Directory covers the period to May 1st 1887 I assume that it would cover the latter part of 1886. The children were baptized in Holy Rosary Church but that Parish wasn't formed until 1889, ergo there is no Marriage Register for previous years. Can anyone help? John Myers, Cave Creek, Arizona, USA.

    1. Travelling at the time of the Famine
    2. Hi wondering what fellow Researchers might think of the following situation and my reading of it. My GGGrandfather Nathaniel Lannin Married Margaret Mahoney in St Finbarrs, Cork City on 12 April 1846 , he travelled and arrived in Schull on the 4 May 1846 and apparently he was sick!. What i think seeing as Schull and Cork City are at least 100 km apart is that he must have had a Horse or Horse and Cart it seems to me highly unlikely if he was Sick he would have walked it in that time. Would like to know what others Think. Regards Ron Lanning

    3. Hi again Cliff - indeed it is Bandon where my connections lie. There is a great deal of Bandon history on the internet, including a complete transcription of a book by George Bennett - History of Bandon. http://www.paulturner.ca/Ireland/Cork/HOB/HOB%20Preface.htm There is mention of a General Johnson in Chapter 23. May be of interest - certainly the story of Bandon is very interesting in an Irish history context. Bennet of course writes from a rather pro-establishment perspective but gives a great sweep of information on the whole area. Hope this is of interest.
