    1. Dunmanway
    2. First, Thank you to those of you who shared your Ronan connections in Dunmanway. I think I should clarify the information for Patrick Ronan & Rachel Beamish. Patrick Ronan was b. abt. 1790; his parents were Patrick Ronan & Mary Gillman. Rachel Beamish was b. 1786; her parents were Richard Beamish & Elizabeth Ross. The children of Patrick Ronan & Rachel Beamish were: John Ronan b. March 1813 - lived in Bloomington, Ind. then Tippecanoe Co., Ind. Mary Ronan b. 1815 - m. O'Connor. Lived in Broome Co., NY Timothy Ronan b. abt. 1821 - lived in Sidney - then ? James Ronan b. abt. 1822 - lived in Sidney, Ohio Patrick Ronan b. March 17, 1823 - m. Kate McMorrow - lived in Sidney then Iowa.*Mine. Ellen Ronan b. abt. 1835 - m. O'Riley - lived in Sidney, Ohio Bridget Ronan b. 1837 - m. Quinlin. Lived in Sidney, Ohio Anna Ronan - m. Ovenden. Lived in Dover, England That is about all I know about the family and have no idea if there are still Ronan relatives in County Cork. I do know that Rachel Beamish Ronan came to America and died in Sidney in 1876. So far as I know, the older Patrick did not come to the states. I would be available for transcribing information (limit 50 pages) but would not want to be responsible for a web site and would not want to be a list-mom. Maggie Merrill

    3. I am particularly interested in your Beamish line. Do you have any other names of Rachel's siblings? My ggg grandmother, Elizabeth Beamish, was from the Dunmanway area. She married William Hagertie (spelled in a variety of ways!) in 1803 in Drimoleague parish, Church of Ireland. Baptism records for their 2 youngest children (1816 and 1819) are in a surviving register for Kilmeen parish. Kilmeen is a few miles southeast of Dunmanway (on the way to Clonakilty). Other Dunmanway area families who married siblings of Wm Hagertie include Forbes, Boyd, Webb, Tanner and Stout. The various families came to Mercer County PA and/or to Hastings County, Ontario, most of them between 1821 and 1827. I am interested in any and all of these surnames from the Dunmanway/Clonakilty/Bandon areas. 2. What a wonderful idea. My Buckley's are from Dunmanway. I have been there, stayed at the Parkway Hotel, met Pat McCarthy (a wonderful man) and visited the Dunmanway Heritage Center. I've also met John Coakley, visited St. Patrick's and the cemetery. When I stayed at the Parkway, I was asked which Buckley family I was from. I was able to visit the Shanagh House where my grandfather was born. Also of interest, some unknown gentleman has been cleaning up Kilbarry graveyard and has done a wonderful job. I would love to contribute to the Dunmanway list and help in any way I can but unfortunately I cannot volunteer as administrator. I would also be happy to contribute to the Dunmanway Heritage Center, they do good work there. Peggy

Ginni Swenton, Margaret Moon, Sheila McCauley, Jean Prendergast and Paul Turner (I hope I have everyones name correct), have generously posted vital researched information at various sites on the web for Dunmanway area. Go raibh maith agat to all of them. For those of you who are not familiar with their sites, it is worth a checking into. A rootsweb site just for Dunmanway is a grand idea. Over the past 10 years I have met many on the web that are researching this town. As much as I am very interested in seeing a site created for Dunmanway, I would not be able volunteer to manage it as I just don't have the time. I wish you the best in your search for a manager. 3. The information you have is sketchy, especially if the only surname you have is Kelly. So, a search for Kate will be time consuming. If the birth happened in 1864 or after, it should be listed in the civil registrations, the indexes to which are available through the LDS Family History Centers. 3. Candi I too would be glad to see some interchange between people with Dunmanway connections. I have been there on two occassions without success. The historical society is a great source of information, based as it is in a small café, you get to meet some of the locals over a cup of tea or coffee. One of the things that really threw me was when a local asked who I was and I introduced myself as an "O'Driscoll" the response I got was "and which one of the O'Driscoll families do you belong to". Needless to say we weren't able to get much further than this in trying to find our ancestor. Dunmanway is advertised as a small industrial town, but I found it to be a nice little village with people typical of Ireland, friendly and hospitable. The problem for peole like myself is that you never have enough time to search out the odd clues you get because of a tight holiday schedule. Details of the person I am searching are set out below Regards, John O'Driscoll - Australia 1. Daniel Driscoll. Daniel was a farmer in Dunmanway, Co, Cork, Ireland, according to the information on his son's marriage certificate. Daniel married Catherine Hurley. This small timber cottage is still intact and the small window above the front door has the sign "Driscoll Cottage" on it. On sundays following mass he would meet with his friends for a drink and a talk in his back yard. All the discussion was in Irish. His funeral drew a procession of friends in thirty horse drawn carriages following the hurst along Alexander Parade to the Melbourne General Cemetery in Carlton. Daniel married Bridget Hart [scrapbook] daughter of Jeremiah Hart (Blacksmith of Rosscarbery Co, Cork, Ireland) and Bridget Hart on 30 Apr 1876 in St Peter's & Paul's Church, Emerald Hill, Victoria Aust.
