Hi Sarah, There is a Dreenagh East and a Dreenagh West in the Civil parish of Buttevant. Slightly different spelling but I guess it would be pronounced the same. Don't know the exact location but if Pete is back from his trip he will pinpoint it for you. Regards, Brendan Jones. > it being near the town of Buttevant but I have looked on a map and found a > Drinagh that is almost the opposite end of Cork to Buttevant. > > I'm wondering if there is another Drinagh. >
Hi, Does anyone know of the parish of Drinagh? I have an army form that records it being near the town of Buttevant but I have looked on a map and found a Drinagh that is almost the opposite end of Cork to Buttevant. I'm wondering if there is another Drinagh. Sarah _________________________________________________________________ Are you using the latest version of MSN Messenger? I am searching for informaiton about the origin of John Rooney, born about 1833 in Ireland. His brother Martin Rooney was born about 1828 in Ireland and they both immigrated to the US where Martin was married in Indiana about 1850 and John was married about 1855 in Illinois. I have information that their parents were Patrick Rooney and Winnie Moran but I don't have dates of brith, marriage or death for them. Oral family history has been that they came from County Cork in Ireland. I don't know the date they left to come to the US although it has to be between 1828 and 1850 for Martin and probably 1833 to 1850 for John. The family was Catholic. I am trying to find the date and port of their arrival in the US, but I don't have this information yet. I have information that Martin Rooney met his wife-to-be Ann Geraty (Gerarty) on the ship to the US and that she was born in Ireland. If anyone knows this family or can tell me how I could proceed to finding the city of origin for them, I would appreciate it. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Hi All, I saw the post about the Ginni Swanson website and I have to tell you that it is a great site for Cork info. I've used it several times because of her connections to my Olden line and it is very informative. She even has gravestone pictures included. My Gran is 90 this year she was born Mary Forde in Henry Street, Cork City in 1916, daughter of John Forde and Ellen Regan. Nan hasn't told me a great deal but I know her Father worked on the roads, her family had a pub in Barrack Street, somebody had an Undertakers business and her Grandparents had a farm in Ballincollig, oh and one Auntie emigrated to America! Do you know what happened to your Fordes? Kind regards, Sharon Hi Sharon, I do not have a lot of info. I have a picture of my ggrandfather John Forde and he appears to be wearing the clothing, cap and pocket watch of someone who worked for the Railroad or possibly the Ferry. I do not have any info on any of his siblings only on a niece, a nephew and his children. None of them were in business in Cork city, I'm afraid they were a poor lot and most of them worked at the Blarney Mills and or did landscaping. One of John Fordes brothers did emigrate to the USA, because his son, who lived in Blarney was nicknamed "Paddy the Yank" because he was born in the US. There were quite a few John Forde's in Cork which makes the search difficult. John Thomas Bacon was an apothecary in Patrick Street, City of Cork in the years from 1805 - 1811 (Holdens Cork Directory) Also in 1787 Holden's Cork Directory: John Thomas Bacon is an apothecary in North Main street Note my own 5x great grandfather Robert Stevelly appears in the same Directory as Silk Mercers & Haberdashers, North Main street so they most probably knew each other and shopped at each other establishments! :- ) No sign of Francis Guy in either of these Directories: A Richard Bacon qualified as an apothecary in 1815, also a Richard Bacon in 1801 and a William Bacon in 1804. William Bacon was a Coal dealer and publican at East Beach, Cove, Co Cork in 1846. http://www.sci.net.au/userpages/mgrogan/cork/apothecaries.htm http://www.sci.net.au/userpages/mgrogan/cork/slaters_cove.htm Richard Frederick Guy lived at 23 Mary Street, Cork in 1824. As for Francis Bacon, it seems he was an Englishman tried and true, born in London. However you could join the discussion on this webpage and see if there might be a Cork connection: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Bacon Then there are the famous Francis Guy's Cork Directories: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/show_narrative_page_by_place.do? page_id=3066 Therein I think might lay your man! We recently visited Cork where we found my wife's GGF's (Francis Guy) house. Above the front door to the house there is the name Verulan. Looking up Verulan on the web I was surprised to find that Francis Bacon was Baron of Verulan particularly as Francis Guy's mother was Ann Bacon, daughter of John Thomas Bacon and Abigail Newman of Cork. Does anyone know anything about the Bacon family of Cork or of any connections Francis Bacon had with Cork? -- Kind Regards Murray Lynn Christchurch New Zealand Web Site <http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mlynn/>

Hello List I have now discovered from Naval Records that he was sending money by allotment for to his MOTHER Anne Cotter who lived in Bantry. The money was to be collected at C.R. Bantry and was in force from 1797 to 1803 at the least. Any information on the Cotter family in Bantry would be gratefully appreciated. Bryan Richards
