I'm searching for the following family: DANIEL NIHEN was born Abt. 1801 in Ireland, and died June 1871 in Aberavon, Wales. He married ANN (NANCY) UNKNOWN. Children of DANIEL NIHEN and ANN UNKNOWN are: i. CORNELIUS NIHEN, b. Abt. 1833, Ireland; d. March 06, 1883, Silver Brook, Pennsylvania. ii. JOHANNA NIHEN, b. Abt. 1834, Ireland; m. JOHN CROWLEY, March 20, 1854, Neath, Wales. iii. WILLIAM L. NIGHAN, b. Abt. 1835, Ireland; m. Ellen CARLIN or CALDON Abt. 1860 iv. ELLEN NIHEN, b. Abt. 1837, Ireland v. JOHN NIHEN, b. January 1843, Ireland; m. Mary CLEMENS, November 13, 1864, Neath, Wales d. March 10, 1907, Lansford, PA. ANN (NANCY) UNKNOWN was born Abt. 1812 in Ireland, and died September 1876 in Aberavon, Wales. She married DANIEL NIHEN. This family was found in Aberavon, Wales, for the 1851 Census. Our family story has always been that they came from Cork. If the Irish naming scheme works in this instance, the father of Daniel could be Cornelius. I'm open to suggestions on how I might find this family in Ireland. Thank you, Joe Nihen Lansford, PA Save a life ... adopt a pet!

John F O'Donnell and Bridget Doherty were both born in County Cork, married in Carndonagh Co Donegal in 1881, and emigrated to Boston that year as well. They went on to have a bunch of children all born in Boston, Ma. Maggie, Mary Ann(Maime), John F, Neil A, Bridget Agnes, Bernard J, They had 2 daughters they named Susan M, the first died before she was or about age 1, then Susan M(later married Seymour Watts), and James Christopher. I am hoping someone will connect, or at least know of these folks. I am interested in learning more, anything about John F and Bridget Doherty and their families in Ireland. Parents, siblings, etc. My grandmother Mary Ann O'Donnell were the children's cousin, but I am trying to find out how? Her parents were James O'Donnell and Susan White Doherty both born in Ireland(thought it was in Donegal, now I'm not sure maybe Cork). I don't know if the connection is through the O'Donnell or the Doherty side of the family. I do know that Mary Ann(my grandmother) was born in Carndonagh Co Donegal July 28, 1873(birth certificate). After emig she married Patrick Bradley dob May 1864 also born in Carndonagh(birth cert). His parents were Bernard Bradley(1838 ?) and Mary McGeoghan. She had several siblings: Patrick John, Neal(Neil) Maggie(Margaret?) Denis and Philip For what that may be worth here. I would love to learn who John F O'Donnell, and James O'Donnell sibling were. Could they be the connection being brothers? Oh so many questions, Oh so many O'Donnell's and Dohertys : Please help if your able. Thank you Barbara
John F ODonnell dob Dec 1854 County Cork. Bridget Doherty dob Feb 1861 county Cork They were married Jan 16 1881 in Carndonagh Co Donegal and emigrated to Boston Ma in 1881. They had several children all born in Boston Ma Maggie, Mary Ann(Maime), John F, Neil A, Bernard J, Susan M(they had 2 girls named Susan the first one 1895 died in 1896) then they had Susan M Dog Aug 1898 , (she would later marry Seymour Watts). and James Christopher ODonnell. I think John F O'Donnell's parents were John ODonnell and Elizabeth Carney and Bridgets parents were Neils Doherty and mothers given name was Margaret, surname unknown. Their daughter Susan married Seymour Watts. They had several children too. William , John Harold, Eleanor, Harold F, and several(aabout 4) that may still be living in or around Boston? Anyone who feels they have a connection may e-mail me directly with private information. I know there are a lot of Watts out there that could be related. Susan M ODonnell and her siblings were my grandmother Mary Ann ODonnell cousins. My grandmother daughter of James ODonnell and Susan White Doherty was born in Carndonagh Co Donegal July 28, 1873. Her siblings were Patrick, John, Neal, Maggie, Denis, and Philip. All born in Carndonagh, and I think baptised at Sacret Heart Church in Carndonagh. Any one as I said may e-mail me with private information at _Nsambradley@aol.com_ (mailto:Nsambradley@aol.com) . Mary Ann (grandmother) married Patrick Bradley dob May 1864, parents Bernard Bradley and Mary McGeoghan, siblings Mary and Margaret. They married April 17, 1902 at St Peters in Dorchester Ma(Boston). Went on to have 6 children. Both died in Salem Ma Patrick 1931, and MaryAnn 1958. Thank you so much and sorry to be so long winded here. Barbara

Wondering if anyone can help me learn about John F O'Donnell who was born in County Cork Irealand Dec 1854 and Bridget Doherty dob Feb 1861. They emigrated to the USA setting in Boston Ma. John F O'Donnell was the son of John O'Donnell and Elizabeth Carney Bridget Doherty was daughter of: Neil Doherty and Margaret (?) Would like to know who John F, O'Donnell and siblings were. and those of Bridget Doherty's too. What was Margaret's maiden name? Do either have a connection to Carndonagh County Donegal. I think they married there before emigrating in Jan of 1881. I think maybe at the Sacret Heart Church there. One possible connection for John F O'Donnell would be to James O'Donnell and his wife Suisan White Doherty both born in the 1840's. They had a bunch of children Patrick(1867) John(1868) Neal(1871) Mary Ann(July 28, 1873-would later in MA become my grandmother) Maggie(Margaret(1875) Denis(1878) and Philip(1880) or maybe the connection would be with the Doherty's , just not sure at this point. The more I learn the more questions I have. Any help would be appreciated. I do have some information but not a whole lot of them. Thanks again Barbara
Hi Rosie, Prompted by Candi's post I checked the British Isles Vital Records for Oddie and Kilfoyle in Cork. Bear in mind that these records are by no means comprehensive nor do they claim to be. I could find no Oddie in Cork. I did find two records for Kilfoyle which may be connected to your lot. James Kilfoyle son of Thomas Kilfoyle married Ann Bray on November 29 1861 in Clonmel Cork. The only Clonmel I know of in Cork is the civil parish of Clonmel which covers part of Queenstown (now Cobh) County Cork. The other record is the Birth of Mary Kilfoyle to the above James and Ann on December 18 1868 at Ballincollig County Cork. Ballincollig is about six miles west of Cork City. Regards, Brendan.
Rosemary, You may also find the births at your local LDS Family History Center--most should be on the CDs British Isles Vital Records. they would be in the 10 years transcribed Irish civil births included in the CDs. Regards, Candi in California
Good morning list This is my first posting. I am looking for Katherine or Kate KILFOYLE born circa 1848, native place Cork. She married William Riley ODDIE, native place Essex, about 1870 and they had four children born in Cork before 1880: James c.1871, William c.1872, Mary c.1875 and Henry c.1877. ODDIE was a gardener and seedsman at Great George's Street Cork during this time. Can anyone help me find marriage or births for any or all of these please? Or any information about Great George's Street. The family emigrated to Tasmania in 1883. With many thanks Rosie in Hobart, Tasmania
Hi Rosie, Great Georges Street in Cork City is now known as Washington Street. Civil records in Ireland began in 1864 with the exception of non Catholic marriages which began in 1845. If you go to www.groireland.ie/ you will find out how to apply for certificates. Regards, Brendan Jones. ----- Original Message ----- > > This is my first posting. Since my last request I have found another piece of the jigsaw Thomas Young Cotter stated he was born Bantry 1805. His father was Richard Cotter and his mother Ellen Young. We thought he was born in 1806 in London where his parents married. The family then lived in Lambeth London . When he was 14 he joined his father as a cadet in the RN. He then studied and became appointed as Colonial Surgeon to South Australia and spent the rest of his life there. see http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A010237b.htm Looking for any links to Cotter of Bantry before 1805. Hi Listers, Has anyone got an Eliza Cotter of Ballincurrig Douglas Cork on their tree? Daughter of Barry Cotter of same address. Married William Henry Clery 1865 at St Finbarrs Cork. Eliza born 1825. Any help appreciated. Erin NZ
A few years back, California birth records (name of person, county born, date of birth and mother's maiden name) were available...free...on the Internet. Some elected official was convinced it contributed to identity theft, although no Social Security Numbers, current addresses, or even whether the person was alive or not, so the State of California removed that information from the internet. BUT... you can still get them through Ancestry.com or Vital search, or plenty of other sites.....IF YOU PAY. Is that the fate of Massachusettes records too. Angel in California
Hi- I know there is a question about whether or not this is the correct place for data about Mass...but if the records are online, where can I find them?? I have searched the California records and found them quite useful for my husband's family who has been in SF since the days of the Gold Rush. It would be great to have the same information available about Mass. Thanks, Mary Ellen From foggy, cold San Francisco which sure beats the heat... --- AngelTardif@aol.com wrote: > A few years back, California birth records (name of > person, county born, date > of birth and mother's maiden name) were > available...free...on the Internet. > Some elected official was convinced it contributed > to identity theft, although > no Social Security Numbers, current addresses, or > even whether the person was > alive or not, so the State of California removed > that information from the > internet. Hi, This email is not to start a debate but to put to bed the discussion about the Massachusetts legislation, or any US legislation, etc. The list is for discussion matter directly relating to County Cork, Ireland. No variation. US legislation is off-topic. Wish to disagree with me, please do it directly, not via the list. Regards Andrew List-admin IRL-CORK mailing list
This page, from the Massachusetts Genealogical Council was updated today, June 20, 2006. http://home.comcast.net/~massgencouncil/ And sorry about not changing the subject line of my previous message, wondering if both Dick Eastman and the Massachusetts Genealogical Council's information is accurate - after reading Ann's email that there is nothing to worry about. You say, "They may try it again." Why would Dick Eastman include the following in his newsletter if they weren't trying again? I am trying to figure out whether or not the newsletter item is accurate. He quotes the Massachusetts Genealogical Council. Is their information accurate? They tell us the bills are in the House Ways and Means Committee, and that the bills are being pushed for passage in two weeks. The first paragraph reads: "Legislative bills (H-3642, H-3643, and H-3644, petitioned by Plymouth Rep. Thomas J. O’Brien, et al.), currently pending in the Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee, are being pushed for passage within two weeks. They will close public records that have been open for nearly 400 years as well as the indexes to them." http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/06/massachusetts_r.html#more Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann W" <annw659@cableone.net> To: <IRL-CORK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 19, 2006 8:59 PM Subject: Re: Mass. Hi, Jan- Apparently the sponsors of these bills refiled in the fall of '05, but did not change the date of implementation, which was January 1, 2004. This could affect the bills, but they may also just allow for a typo. These folks seem to have made several attempts at closing the records. Perhaps we should not only send emails to the Mass. legislators, but also STRONGLY encourage the Governor to veto the bill, should it make it to his desk! All the tourist dollars that will be lost should these records get locked up could have an impact, let alone the loss of family medical histories, etc. I'm sure other people can come up with more reasons to keep them open - I sure don't want to have to produce DNA to prove that I need my family history! Ann
The bills referred to in the alert about records were brought up last year, and died in committee. I went in to read them, and it's nothing to worry about. They may try it again, but right now, we can all take a deep sigh of relief!! Ann
