    3. Whoops, sorry Margaret, I forgot to mention that I'm sure I read somewhere that the Casey volumes have been filmedby the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Check with your nearest Mormon outlet. (I'd rather use the books than film though; the print in the books is tiny, as others have mentioned, and the books are huge, so I can only imagine the ordeal of sweating through films with a magnifying glass!) We'd be lost without Casey though so any effort is worthwhile. 3. I believe the Genealogists Society in Melbourne now has the full set of Casey's volumes - but certainly they have most and definitely the volumes you would need. Try 'phoning the Genealogists Society in Sydney because although I don't know what they hold, they just may have some volumes and could certainly direct you to the nearest place. You may have to take a quick run to Canberra as I too have viewed the volumes at the National Library so know they are there. Have you tried the N.S.W State Library? You may be lucky there. Good luck! You may have to travel but you can definitely access all 15-16 volumes here in Australia. 3. This is the url for Libraries Australia and you will be able to find where copies of these books are in OZ. It is best to type the authors name ( Albert Eugene Casey) in as the actual name O'Kief, Coche Mang, Slieve lougher & Upper Blackwater, Ireland is a bit long. I think there were copies in Sydney but here in WA there was only Volume 8. They can be ordered through the Family History centres. http://librariesaustralia.nla.gov.au/apps/kss Incidently there is an index of names at the back of the volumes which helps as they are large books. 1. Finding the Casey volumes
    2. Zizek, Candi (DHS-DCDC-IDB)
    3. I had the opportunity to scan through one of the 14 (?) Casey Volumes at the LDS FHC in Sacramento. The owner brought her volume to share in research. She bought the entire set for $400 on E-Bay a few years ago. I would be most interested to purchase the set for myself if someone knows of a resource. I have no clue if any of my family are in there, but from what I saw, everybody else is! Please let me know of any options you folks discover. When I am done on this earth, they would go on to a library of the next serious Irish researcher, because my 3 kids could care less. Regards, Candi in California

    1. Casey has tiny print
    2. Thomas Glassel
    3. Hi fellow listers, OK, 'twas foolish of me to post a message to the list, when it wouldn't go thru to Jane Flanagan's private email. Sorry, I am unable to do lookups in the 2 volumes of Casey that I own. Wish I could. [Jane happened to need info from the very parish where a few of my grandmother's MAHONEY siblings were baptized, Inchigeelagh. So I'm more familiar with using Vols. 7 & 11 than most of the other 14 volumes.] Casey's print is quite tiny, 4 pages to a "real" page. Picture about 2700 pages squeezed onto a mere 625 pages of the average volume. Requires magnifying glass & very good lighting, and enough time... Casey covers mainly Northwest Cork plus eastern Co. Kerry. Except that, before 1825, it covers much more, and...well, for a far better explanation, anybody researching County Cork really should read Ray Marshall's 1995 excellent article from "The Septs" entitled "The Mother Lode of Irish Genealogy." It is wonderfully helpful, and entertaining too. Mother Lode article IGSI <http://www.irishgenealogical.org/igsi_published/casey.htm> The list of libraries at the article's end is incomplete. Check your local and state historical libraries' online catalogues, more now have one or more vols. Milwaukee's IEL and Minneapolis' genealogy library are not the only ones that have all 16. Before and after locating Casey, assistance is needed. Michele Patin has written a very readable, thorough guide [I had great fun helping her with a church records appendix & an IGI shortcut]. The wise folks of Rootsweb's Co. Kerry list have placed this finding aid online at: Aid to Finding Information in the Casey Collection <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eirlker/caseyaid.html> <http://my.execpc.com/%7Eigsw/> Banner Press in Birmingham, Alabama is the place to order any volume or set, directly from the authorized publisher. Others may offer you a set of all 16 for a "mere $1000." One scoundrel offered me a set for $2000! Beware such dastardly knaves... Cost from Banner to me was about $35 each, plus shipping, about 4 years ago. Save your green for a trip to... a greener place! If you do buy any, please consider designating a library to receive them when you pass on; they are indeed that valuable... Casey fan but still learning, Barb Glassel

    3. Barb, I echo all the queries about how/where you obtained the Casey collection. Also I amlooking for a marriage of a Julia Coleman to a John Donovan about 1825 followed by the birth of Catherine Donovan in 1827. All of this is approximate of course... 3. Hi Erin No - that's my problem! I'd trawl Ireland barefoot for that infomation! I think I've found them (seperatly) on the Brit 1851 - he was lodging with a Michael Coleman (brother?) and she was a prisoner in Knutsford House of Correction (prison). The poor girl survived the famine, left a beautiful country to come and live in a sardine packed country and at 22 ended up in prison for probably something very petty! On her daughters b/cert he names says Coleman, formally Caton and both being RC, I 'assumed' (Ha!) that they married before having children. 3. Hi Jane, Just read your query to the Rootsweb Cork list. Have you tried the Casey Collection of transcriptions of records collected from part of Co. Cork & Kerry? I have only 2 volumes, No. 7 and 11, because those include bapt. & mar. records for Inchigeelagh, my gggparents' RC parish. [Mahoney x Herlihy 1837]. I'd be happy to look up possible Colemans & Catons in those 2 volumes for you; there appear to be 8 Coleman marriages and 13 baptisms in Inchigeelagh prior to 1870, and 1 Caton baptism. The indexes might turn up a few others. Did the 1821 census give any locations within Inchigeela civil parish for the Denis Coleman & Cornelius Caton you found? As to the Flanagans, would they be from Cork also? Good luck, Barb Glassel
