Hi John, My Levis ancestors came over to Co. Cork with the Swantons in the 1690's from Hertfordshire, England. They were tenant farmers in the Schull - Skibbereen area. I wondered if they settled in Bandon before moving southwest? If you have any record of the Levis name I would appreciate your forwarding the data. Many thanks, Bruce N. To John Patrick, I would very much appreciate a lookup for Buttomer or any similar such as Buttermore, etc. Thanks Margaret Oliver ----- Original Message ----- From: <EilGrffths@aol.com> To: <irl-cork@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 4:02 AM Subject: Bandon Protestant Census > Listers. > I have 4 booklets with Gravestone Inscriptions of Kilbrogan C.of I.and > R.C. > and Ballymodan C.of I. and R.C. > If anyone would like me to look up an ancester just email. > John Patrick > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > IRL-CORK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Hi listers. If you have Protestant ancestors from Ballymodan in Bandon there are two 'censuses' available at the National Library in Dublin. These are full lists of names etc but not always with ages. They appear to have been completed by the local parish minister and have great comments alongside some families. The reference is MS 3676 and/or 675. List of Protestants, Ballymodan. Positive number 9020. Worth checking if you are able to get to Dublin. Ballymodan is one of the two parishes in Bandon, but I did not see anything similar for Kilbrogan. Best wishes, Patsy - New Zealand.
Listers. I have 4 booklets with Gravestone Inscriptions of Kilbrogan C.of I.and R.C. and Ballymodan C.of I. and R.C. If anyone would like me to look up an ancester just email. John Patrick
Thank you to KEVIN & DAVID for the information regarding IRISH CENSUS. Regards, Syd (Southampton)
There are also fragments from the 1851 census as published by J. Masterson. ISBN: 0-8063-4610-8. They include records of 4 parishes of County cork, in the Union of Kilworth. These parishes are Kilcrumper, Kilworth and portions of Leitrim and Macroney. Included are 750 households & 4000 persons. Greetings census hunters, Add to the census list: a transcription exists of the 1821 Census, for 18 townlands of Inchigeela. Online! Transcriptions are not the same as the destroyed originals. My ancestors lived near but not in those 18, but I consider it a visualizing help anyway. [They probably walked across some of this land, even if they didn't own or rent it.] Online as part of M. Grogan's great website: <http://myhome.ispdr.net.au/~mgrogan/cork/inch_1821_cen.htm> The Ballingeary Historical Society had published this transcription in about 1999 in its Journal, and had hoped to add more pieces of this transcription. Does anyone have an update on that possibility? Margaret Grogan's site has a whole page on Co. Cork censuses: <http://myhome.ispdr.net.au/~mgrogan/cork/a_census.htm> Barb Glassel
I am trying to trace the birth of James FLAHERTY, poss born abt 1775. He left Ireland in 1825, sailing from Cove, on the Fortitude. He settled in Peterborough, Ontario. He is said to have been from Kilworth, Cork, but the Parish Registers there have been checked, and there doesnt seem to be a James FLAHERTY born there around 1775. James married Mary ......... who was born around 1777, according to the ships manifest. Children sailing with them were Catherine FLAHERTY b abt 1793. She married Michael MURPHY1833 Kilworth. James FLAHERTY b abt 1795 Ireland, he marr Mary TWOMEY, no date known Ellen FLAHERTY b abt 1796 Ireland, she marr John HENNESSY, no date known Michael FLAHERTY, b 1797 Ireland, he married in Peterborough Ontario to Mary SLINEY Patrick FLAHERTY b abt 1803 Kilworth, he marr an Ann Carroll HENNESEY in Geneva, New York, USA. Thomas FLAHERTY b abt 1811, Ireland, he marr Mary HICKEY Denis FLAHERTY b abt 1817 Ireland James FLAHERTY b abt 1822 Ireland Edward Edmond FLAHERTY b abt 1823 Ireland I am trying to help my Canadian Cousin trace this family in Ireland, would be delighted if you recognise these names and are researching the same family.. Any help or advise on how to go about finding the father James place of birth appreciated. Pat in Lincolnshire, England.
I would say Cork. Ireland .She married into landed gentry.,to Thomas Radley. 1772. she must have been of gentry herself. She was probably md to my 3xgt gfrs brother. They had estates Coachford, parish Aghabullogue. Syd, As Kevin has said (below), there are virtually no pre-1901 census records, especially for Co. Cork!!:) and especially for the years of your interest. There are remnants left, but they are irrelevant to most of us. John Grenham makes the following references: IRISH CENSUS RETURNS AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF IRELAND (NAI) 1. 1813 Census - Never completed. 2. 1821 Census - Remaining returns - For parts of counties Cavan, Fermanagh, Galway, Meath, and Offaly (King's) 3. 1831 Census - Remaining returns. The few remnants relate mainly to Co. Derry (Londonderry). 4. 1841 Census - Remaining returns. The only set of returns is for the parish of Killeshandara, Co. Cavan (except for the townlands of Corranea, Glebe, and Drumberry). 5. 1851 Census - Remaining returns. Only parts of Co. Antrim; "a few" in Co. Fermanagh. 6. 1861 & 1871 Censuses - According to Grenham, "The official destruction of the returns for these two years was commendably thorough." All that remains are transcripts in the Catholic registers of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford (1861), and Drumcondra and Loughbraclen, Co. Meath (1871). 7. 1881 & 1891 Censuses - Destroyed by government order to provide pulp. Unlike 1861 & 1871 where there is, at least, a trace of remnants, nothing remains of these censuses. 8. 1901 & 1911 Censuses (intact) - All available.
