    3. Wondering if anyone can help me with old street names in Cork. Have rec`d a death cert but I can barely read the writing. It looks like Mimballis or Nimballis Lane in Registrars district No 3 in Cork. I cannot find anything that resembles that name on current city maps and know that a lot of those old Lanes had name changes many years back. This time frame was in 1913. Trying to find what area of the city that would have been in. Thanks for any advice on how to find. Heather Horgan

    3. Hi John. I was very good of you to assist me. I hadn't seen the James Maguire and John Quinn in Moyge, when I went through Griffith"s Valuation very late last night. I agree it seems to be a great fit and connection. I will start working on this thread. Again, I am grateful for your help. 3. Dear Kae. Unfortunately , we do not have a connection as yet. I truly wish there was!!! Denis is a name that I haven't experienced in the family. My Maguires seem to have agricultural workers and farm tenants in Ireland, and labourers in the coal ,and iron industries once they migrated to Durham after1848. However, as I work back on my Maguires, I will watch for a match with yours. 3. Rob, I have had a closer look at the Griffith's Valuation and there was a James Maguire and a John Quinn living in the same townland of Moyge in the Civil Parish of Lisnacarroll County Cork. James Maguire was the occupier of 52 acres, 3 perches and 37 roods. He leased the property from Reps.Christopher, Knight, Saunders Esq. He paid £29/10/-, for the land, £1/15/- for the buildings making a total annual rent of £31/5/-. John Quinn from the same townland of Moyge, leased from the same Reps. Christopher, Knight, Saunders Esq. 23 acres, 3 perches, 35 roods. His rent per annum was £12/15/- for the land and 5/- for the buildings.Total annual rent being £13/-/-. 3. I have followed with discussion on Maguires with interest and thought I would add mine to the mix. I dont know if Denis below had any descendants or if there were any other Maguire children in this family: Charles Maguire, Linen draper near Tuckey’s street who died 1 Feb 1810 South Main street, Cork Married Mrs Maguire who died 5 Jan 1775, Cork Children: 1. Denis Maguire Lieut 6th Regt of Foot d 27 Aug 1798 at Castlebar 2. Helen Maguire who married 7 March 1795 at Holy Trinity Cork City to Dr George Fowler MD. I am a direct descendant of Dr George Fowler and his wife Helen nee Maguire. Helen's father Charles Maguire was a Roman Catholic merchant while Dr George Fowler was a protestant. George and Helen were married at Holy Trinity, Cork City, a protestant church. Their descendants attended both RC and protestant churches to baptise their children so I have had big difficulties tracking them all down. Regards, Kae Lewis

    1. DALY, EGAN, O'ROURKE, KENNEY/EARNY, O'DONNELL, JOHNSTON/SON
    2. Patricia
    3. I'm posting this in hope that it will find a "living someone" in this line. We are said to have come from County Cork, but I'm still looking for proof. The primary immigrants were the DALYs, the other surnames married within these families, but they had also come from Ireland. First DALY immigrants: John (ca.1795-1843), James (ca.1803-1843), and Lawrence (ca.1807/15-1905). These brothers arrived in the US ca. 1830. John and James settled in Grafton, Lorain OH by 1833. They died within months of each other. Lawrence, my GrGf was in OH by 1845. The 1900 US Census says he was in the US in 1830, but I haven't been able to prove it. He may have been in St. Clair, IL on the 1840 Census. In 1863, he married my GrGm, Mary Ann EGAN (ca. 1835-1922), who had immigrated in 1851. The next immigrant was Michael DALY (ca.1832-1900). He arrived in 1859. He married Catherine O'ROURKE (ca.1845-1908) in the US, after her arrival here in 1860. By 1863, they live in OH on Lawrence's land. It's not clear how Michael and Lawrence are related. Michael might be a late-born half-brother of a second marriage, or Lawrence was Michael's uncle. Catherine had a brother, Martin (ca.1847-1903), who arrived in the US, 1868. Catherine and Martin are the children of John O'ROURKE and Ann KENNY/EARNY. Martin married Ann O'DONNELL (ca.1853-1930). She was the daughter of Hugh O'DONNELL and Bridget JOHNSTON/SON. The O'Donnell's other daughter, Margaret (ca.1844-1924) married John MOORE. Once all these families arrived in Northern Ohio, they lived in Lorain County, and some moved to Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH. If this sounds familiar, I'd appreciate knowing it. Thanks, Trish

    1. MARY SCANNELL 1833-1884 (daughter of Edward SCANNELL)
    2. John Steitz
    3. I am refreshing my postings with hope a few new loose threads of info could help. Mary SCANNELL was born May 1833-4 in Ireland. She was the daughter of an Edward SCANNELL. She married John BUCKLEY in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales on May 18, 1852. She has not been found on the Wales or England 1851 Census (recorded early April) and thus I speculate that she came to Wales near the end of the Famine in 1851. Her father is listed as deceased on marriage certificate. John's father was listed as Michael BUCKLEY. They had children by the names Johanna, Edward, Margaret, John, Ellen, Bridget, Catherine, Cornelius Edward & Jeremiah Michael. The last two were born in Pittsburgh, PA. where the family came through NY harbor leaving Wales 1871 & 2. Children Edward, Ellen & Bridget died in Wales prior to the migration. The middle names I believe honor deceased siblings. Mary died in Pittsburgh 1884. I have found no hard evidence of immediate family in Wales although I suspect that is not true. Wales 1871 Census shows a Mary HARRINGTON, age 80 living with family listed as "Mother". John had already left for US at time of census. Marriage witness names: Dennis and Mary MINIHAN (they were brother and sister) Baptism sponsor (Wales only): Johanna: David GOGGIN & Catherine DRISCOLL Edward (information missing), Margaret: Michael CARTY & Mary HARRINGTON, Ellen: Timothy DONOHOE & Mary DONOGAN, Bridget: *James* COLEMAN & Mary * DONNAHUE*. The spelling, penmanship and attempts at Latin in Church records leaves room for adjustment where italicized. On Edward's birth cert Mary Buckley was listed as formerly Donahue. She was spinster at marriage but Donahue/Donohoe name is significant. The David GOGGIN was living with sister Mary GOGGIN on Wales 1851 Census. He listed "Klamkelthy", Ireland which I interpret as Clonakilty. She listed "Ross, Cork". They had a Mary SCANNELL living with them, age 60 listed as "Mother". Catherine DRISCOLL was the wife of Florence DRISCOLL. I do not know her maiden name although I suspect either BUCKLEY or SCANNELL. These two families lived a few doors apart twice in Merthyr, different neighborhoods over a ten year span. Edward is a very rare name in SCANNELL family at this time. I have checked the IHFS search engine without a match. I speculate this is a southwest Cork SCANNELL. There is a long list of reasons for this speculation included and not included here. I suspect John BUCKLEY traveled separate and they met in Merthyr. He is on the 1851 Census in Merthyr listed as "visitor" living with a SHEA family. Thank you for your time and I welcome any fresh thoughts and Happy Easter. John (son of a BUCKLEY)
