Margaret, at least part of the Keyes family in Cork City are connected to that Abington group of mine.? They wound up there in the mid 1700s or so, as painters and glaziers.? I haven't done a very good job at tracing all of them, but do have some info.? They are also connected with the Hargrove family from that area, a Hargrove woman married Ben Keays in about 1809, and then they lived up around the Millbank in Abington, house is still in the family today.? Hi List: Can some one who has the 1911 Irish Census find the people who are residing at"147 Sundays Ave" City of Cork. I would appreciate finding their names, ages and place of birth. Also I would like to know the R.C. Parish name and address for this location. Many thanks to all that reply. All the Best. Larry
This Mary Russell was not a part of the family I am looking for. The first of my Russells did not arrive in Cork until 1851. I think the interpretation that Miss Russell lived in Skibbereen may not be correct. "THE POOR IN SKIBBEREEN. WE have received for the poor of this district £2 from Mr. John Daly, of Harpur's Lane, £1 from Mr. Jeremiah Buckley, Mallow Lane, and 10s. from Miss mary Russell, do., which we shall forward by the next post to the Rev. Mr. Fitzpatrick." There was a Mallow Lane on the north side of Cork. It was the continuation northward over the brow of the hill of Shandon Street. It was later known as Clarence Street and is now Gerald Griffin Street. I suspect that this is the address in question. There were Russells in the vicinity of this street some 50 years. I do not suggest they are the same people as in 1846 but it is possible. Harpur's Lane is likewise a Cork City address. My belief is that money was collected in the City for the poor of Skibbereen. The famine was very bad in that region at that time. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Barbara Bouchey Sent: 29 April 2009 17:31 To: [email protected] Subject: Articles in Old Irish Newspapers Dennis Ahern - how did you find this info in the Cork Examiner? Hello to all Listers I am new to the list, having just taken up my family research again after a number of years away. My main families are: DOWMAN and WINNING. Families connected with them are GRAY, BARRETT , MORRISON, CLARKE and COLTHURST. To work backwards: my g grandparents were Catherine DOWMAN and Peter WINNING. Catherine was born about 1860 in Cork, Peter in Northern Ireland. They were married in Dublin on 8 Aug 1880 at St Bride's Church (C of I). Both died in Cork, Peter in 1896 and Catherine in 1937. Catherine's father was Gray DOWMAN b. 1775 in Cork, and I can go back with some certainty to John DOWMAN b. about 1707, who married Letitia (Lettice) GRAY in about 1743 in Cork. Lettice was born about 1722. There are 2 more links back to a George DOWMAN and a John Senior DOWMAN, but I am unsure about these. If anyone out there recognises these families I would love to hear from you. With best wishes, Glenda Oxfordshire

Virginia, The 1901 census doesn't have any information except DED #'s. For a LDS film you will first need the Civil parish, then the townland for 1911 census which will give you the DED #'s. The 1901 census will have the same DED #'s. On the www.familysearch.org website I went to history library catalog and clicked on keyword search then entered 1901 census Skibbereen Cork. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of virginia bell Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 7:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: census Skibbereen Can anyone tell me which micro-films I would order from the LDS for the 1901 and 1911 census for Skibbereen town?
