Hi everyone, Thought I'd write to the board rather than individually. Jenny, this is a great list, and ties in with Lorraine's e-mail, and others. I'm afraid I'm becoming a little lost in it all because my Daunt is Catherine who m. Peter Courthope in 1662, and so I've never researched the ancestry of the women who m. Daunt men after that date. Seems as though there's a lot of shared info going on here though, which is terrific. I can take the Daunts back a very long way, but I imagine only those who are direct descendants would be interested. Always happy to help though. Cheers, Judie. P.S. Caroline, I'll be in touch next week. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny Stiles" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2009 5:48 PM Subject: DAUNTS, BOYLES, TURNERS & Etc! > Hi Judie, > These are the "disconnected" DAUNTS that I have floating through my tree; > Rev Achilles DAUNT who was born 20 October 1714 at Fahalea, Co Cork & > married in 1747 to Frances FRENCH, daughter of Alderman Philip FRENCH & > Penelope TOWNSEND [She is the daughter of Elizabeth BECHER & Captain > Horatio > TOWNSEND] > > Anne DAUNT who married in 1771 to John Becher HUNGERFORD. Hi Judith, Yes, as I thought, an annoying amount of inter marriages. My mother's great grandfather was Charles Busteed son of Thomas Busteed and Elizabeth Shaw. It is years since I did any work on them but at the time I went through all the records I could find in the Cork City Library although most of my info came from O'Kief. Peter. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 22, 2009 11:49 AM Subject: Re: Gillman Daunt > Hello Lorraine & Peter, > > Peter, I have hundreds of papers relating to the Daunts and need a bit of > time to work through them, so sorry for the delay in replying. It's a truly Daunting task Jenny (pun intended.) Your people do appear to tie in with the ones Lorraine mentioned. I'm interested in the Boyle name too and wonder if you are a descendant of THE Boyles of Cork. I'll do some work tomorrow and get back to everyone, but it's a nice feeling to have so many new "cousins" overnight! Hi Judie, I have a connection by marriage too, Henry TURNER and Dorothy BOYLE had 4 children that I know of; Henry, Richard, Martha TURNER who married George DAUNT & Elizabeth TURNER who married Thomas BECHER [which is my line too, like Lorraine's]. Judith Thamk you for offer. Would appreciate it. Have not got around to Busteeds, yet. About THORNHILL and LEADER, I had a crash and lost info on my hard drive. Had to buy a new comp. If you have time refresh my memory re Thornhill and Leader. Hungerfords were half brothers and sisters of JERVOIS line. My 4x gt gm Susana Beecher .married 1..Hungerford and 2.Jervois and had children by both. Nice to connect with another family researcher. Hello Lorraine & Peter, Peter, I have hundreds of papers relating to the Daunts and need a bit of time to work through them, so sorry for the delay in replying. I think they were probably all the same family in Cork because there were so many of them! Here is what I've found so far re Busteed. Martha Daunt m. Thomas Busteed of Ballinrea 1740. He had other wives. His children with Martha Daunt were Thomas b. 1749, Margaret and Martha and I think a Giles who m. Martha Daunt in 1783. Thomas Busteed b. 1749, above, m. Elizabeth Shaw in 1770 and their children were Captain Henry, Reverend John, Lt. Charles, Shaw, Mary, William, Francis, Martha and Eliza. There were a lot of Daunts who m. Daunts! Also female Busteeds who m. Daunts. You are definitely from the Tracton Abbey family of Daunts of Co. Cork. I hope this helps, and if you can identify which Busteed gent was your ancestor then I'll see if I can find any more info. I've identified your Hungerford, Knolles, Turner people Lorraine. You say you don't know much about the Daunts, so if you need any info about how they fit together than I can probably work it out. Cheers, Judie Morris, Vic. Aust. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lorraine Egan" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 22, 2009 2:15 PM Subject: Re: Gillman Daunt > Prter I don't know much about DAUNTs , Nor about BUSTEEDs. Hi Lorraine, This is not the first time we've had connections - remember Thornhill and Leader? My Daunt line begins way back in the 1600s and I've just checked my files and can see how your George Daunt m.Martha Turner fits in at that time also. I too am fascinated by the number of times I connect with the same researchers two or three times because of intermarriages. Investigations into the Daunt genealogy should come with a health warning!! I did try to investigate it once in order to try and make sense of my Busteed ancestors but got very confused. Am I right in saying there were two unrelated Daunt families in Cork? Lots of references to DAUNT and GILLMAN/GILMAN on the Bandon Genealogy website http://www.bandon-genealogy.com/ - but I don't see a good lead for your man. You might like to wander around the site though. You have probably seen the online family tree for Achilles DAUNT and Mary GILLMAN - it does not mention Howard as a possible child but that may not be conclusive as there may be more children than are listed.. http://www.owlpen.com/Daunt%20of%20Owlpen%20genealogy.pdf Page 64.
