Hi Christine. You'll find James and Ellen on the Sandringham into Sydney in 1864 - I have the list online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/sandringham.htm - they were sponsored out by Dudley McGrath. A descendant with the email address of [email protected] is linked to the McGraths on that voyage. James was travelling with his two sisters Catherine and Mary, wife Ellen and daughter Margaret. In the 1857 Griffiths Valuation there were James Jnr, James snr, a David and a William McGrath as heads of their households in Crilly, Templecarn - and a Patrick McCaffrey as head of his household in the townland of Crocknacunny, Templecarn - the James McGrath and Patrick McCaffrey match the names given as the parents of James and Ellen on the passenger list. The LDS has filmed the Carn Catholic register and the details are - The Catholic parish of Pettigo (Carn or Templecarn) formerly included the civil parishes of Templecarn and Belleek. Belleek is in county Fermanagh; Templecarn is partly in Fermanagh, but chiefly in Donegal. There were chapels in Pettigo, Lettercran and Belleek. The title board indicates records from West Devenish (in Fermanagh) are included. Baptisms 1847-1881 LDS 979704 Item 8 Baptisms 1877-1880 Marriages 1836-1885 LDS 926049 Item 2 So, you would expect to find baptisms dating from 1847 and marriages from 1836 - a possibility of finding the marriage of James and Ellens parents as well! I have other links to Crilly on my website - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/1901crilly.htm - 1901 census of Crilly, mirrored from Margaret Jenkins website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/bapcarn.htm - selection of baptisms for Carn, again mirrored from Margarets site - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~msjenkins/records/linkpage.htm Hope this helps a bit!
