    3. Dorothy, I would go to the nearest Family History Center and order the Irish Civil Birth Registration Index for 1895. That would be the LDS Microfilms 1894-1895 Index of births FHL BRITISH Film 101065 1896-1897 Index of births FHL BRITISH Film 101066 Once you have the film you will see entries by quarter. Each film will have eight quarters on it. You need to check EACH quarter. The pages are arranged by surname so look for the page(s) containing ARMSTRONG and then for the forename. To the right hand side of each entry is a "Reporting District". Unfortunately, the index does not indicate county but, the reporting districts that are in Donegal are: Glenties Milford Donegal Ballyshannon Inishowen Stranorlor Dunfanaghy Strabane Letterkenny and in rare cases Londonderry So, ignore any births not in one of those districts. My wife's great grandfather (R.I.C.) had children born in Glenties, Milford, and Letterkenny as RIC personnel were moved around as needed in each county. I found my wife's grandmother and siblings by this method. Although the birth registration records themselves are not filmed (1881 - 1900 not available for filming), you can find the Year, the Quarter, the Volume, and the Page of registration. You should have reasonable luck in matching names - expecially as Donegal did not have an enormous population. Then, contact the Republic of Ireland http://www.groireland.ie/ and get a certificate. Good luck, Ernie ----------------------------- I have re-subscribed after quite a long absence but am trying to find information on my uncle, ROBERT HENRY ARMSTRONG. I don't know where he was born but as his father was in the R.I.C. in Donegal at the time I am starting off here. He was not the first born as it was usual for the mother to return to where she was brought up to have her first child. When my uncle was old enough (again I don't know the age) I have been led to believe he joined the British Army for, I think, 3 years and a big part of that time he was serving in Scotland. Could some kind person point me in the right direction to try and find his birth details. All I know is that he was born in 1895 and he died in Wandsworth, London, in 1938 having joined the Metropolitan Police when he left the Army. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dorothy.
