    1. Re: [DONEGAL] Drummond
    2. Hi again George, I am glad you liked what I sent. I kept some info about Drummond as I came across it because of having met some from my husbands area. I want to warn you though that the names I gave you were all written in a little notebook with just a few notes and although that trip tweaked my interest in genealogy research I wasn't doing any nor was I taking very good notes! I know there are other Drummonds settled in the area and in Fermanagh and Tyrone And I am sure you could find them all over Ireland. I found 663 names in the LDS familysearch.org site in the International Index by querying with the name Drummond and the location British Isles and the Country Ireland. The largest group was in Antrim. Why are you searching in Donegal? Do you have a bit of history to send you there. If so, there aren't that many Donegal Drummonds listed so maybe you have hit on the right family. If you don't know for sure where, I would try to find some way to narrow it down or you could have a fun but lengthy search. Regarding records. There are next to none. There are church christening records and marriage records from about 1856 for the Ballyshannon area. You could probably view the tapes by going to an LDS center near wherever you live after you figure out what tapes to ask for. Some of that you can do on line if you have never used the LDS site. Ireland is really putting its genealogical history together in tiny bits and pieces collected from all kinds of sources. I have mostly used the net and a kind soul who did look ups for me in Dublin at the National Library which has all of the Catholic church records from the early 1800's forward to about 1879 or there abouts. The 1901 Census is available and complete. Most legal records estate records wills etc were burned in the Four Courts Fire and only indexes are left. I haven't found much but then I haven't bought CDs etc. and am just using the net and people I meet to help me. I posted some of my own research on _Raymondscountydownwebsite.c_ (http://Raymondscountydownwebsite.com ) om which is a good resource if you are looking in Down. If you would like to take a peak you can find my stuff on the Mourne page under "people researching family in Rostrevor area." I am curious as to who you are George. Are you retired like me or getting into this at a younger age. Do you live in Scotland? I am assuming you do but could be wrong. I am a retired nurse. I retired in 2000. I have taken 4 trips to Ireland and hope to take more. My first was as a young girl of 9 when I visited my grandmother in county Down in l948 for the summer. My second trip was in 1993 to Scotland and Ireland and we had so much fun we decided our kids needed the experience to. So we found a "self catering castle" in Galway and came again with our kids and grandkids in 1999. We had three at the time and now have four and I guess that will be it. At least that is what I am told. Tom and I returned to celebrate his 65th birthday and St Patrick's Day in 2002. Since then I have had two knees and one hip replaced and am just beginning to feel like I am getting back on my feet and able to begin to think about our next trip. Every time I went I wanted to know more about those illusive ancestors. so I am now hooked and getting more so. One thing I have which I would be happy to email copies of are a few pictures of the Drummonds I told you about. Let me know if you would like them. Judy
