    3. Hi Liam, I absolutely agree that Google Earth is a fantastic piece of software. I've enjoyed it for many months now and thank you for pointing out the recent additions of brilliantly detailed images of Donegal, Derry etc. Let's hope they will succeed in completing the full mosaic of the island in due course ! I hope my reply to the question asking if Donegal Town and Donegal City were the same didn't appear dismissive or brusque - not my intention at all. I have to agree in light of your Google results that confusion abounds about the status of Donegal Town/City. I suppose I should have qualified my reply to the earlier query by saying that certainly in Donegal, or indeed Ireland, it is never referred to as a city. It was always referred to locally as Donegal Town. There are no cities currently in County Donegal - at least to my knowledge. Letterkenny Town Council recently however passed a motion to explore the possibility of gaining City status in the future. I contend that the "uphill struggle of educating....re Donegal conurbations" is in no way made easier by the proliferation of 1.7m inaccurate references on the web to "Donegal City". All of the websites you mention contain excellent examples of such inaccuracies, but my favourite has to be a certain florist "based within Donegal who has daily deliveries locally to Artane, Killester, Beaumont, Fairview and Whitehall and throughout the greater Donegal Area." All 5 areas named are suburbs of Dublin, 160 miles away! The openness of the web, the automated methodologies of search engines and design of data-entry web forms all contribute to such confusion. My apologies to all for drifting somewhat from our genealogical theme, but I suppose there is a moral for us all in this - that the worldwide web is a wonderful tool for us in our research, but should always be treated with a wee bit of healthy suspicion!
