    3. Donegal Town is never referred to as a city. The population of the town in 2006 was only 2339, and Donegal is the 5th largest town in County Donegal - Letterkenny being the largest with a 2006 population of 17,586. The 2006 Census gives the population of County Donegal as a whole as 147,264. 3. Dear John Re: "Donegal Town is never referred to as a city." Confusion about the status of the Donegal metropolis appears to abound throughout the internet. The URL http://www.irelandscape.com/display_location.php?location_id=380 speaks of Donegal City Centre One can have an Aerlingus break in Donegal City at URL http://www.aerlingusvacationstore.com/vacations/ireland-city-donegal There is Donegal City at http://www.euroave.com/index_ave.php?gocountry=ireland&gocity=donegal The URL http://www.donegalflorist.com/ promises to deliver flowers to Donegal City The term - Donegal town Ireland - returns 127,000 hits on Google but the term - Donegal city Ireland- returns 1,700,000 hits. I cannot dispute your claim regarding Donegal town/City, never having been to the place but I can say that in County Antrim we have a more fluid attitude towards metropolitan nomenclature - my home town, Ballymena, is referred to as the City of the Seven Towers (and that's stretching it a bit). They even refer to Belfast as a city. The task of educating the uninformed about the status of Donegal conurbations will be an uphill struggle seing as you disparagingly refer to even your largest, Letterkenny, as a town as well. Don't you have any cities in the County at all? I hope you enjoyed the Google Earth maps of Donegal?
