Andrew & Juliet I noticed in your note regarding the Flax Growers List that in addition to Marshall one of your "associated family names is English. I am also trying to obtain information on the "English" surname in County Down. My ggg-grandmother was Agnes Ann English, born in County Down about 1820-1825. Her parents were Robert English and Ellen McTear. Agnes married William Ferguson in the late 1840s. They apparently lived in (or very near to) Killyleagh. Their youngest child was born in 1865 and her birth was registered in Killyleagh. William and his family migrated to the USA about 1871. They lived in the Whitinsville area of Massachusetts. At least 2 of their children married Marshalls. Any possible connection?
