Hi Jean, I wish I had something beyond the family story that he emigrated with his cousin John McShane -- supposedly the father of the famous builder John McShain -- but I have no records of anything yet to confirm that link, just that the families seem to be from the same region of County Derry. James Feeney's parents (both born in Co. Derry, both died in Drumaweer, Moville, Co. Donegal) were Manus (aka Manasses, Emmanuel, Manuel, Manny) Feeney and Mary Anne Feeney (nee Moore). I have not found their marriage, James' birth/baptismal, or their births, but census and death records indicate all three were born in Co. Derry. The best clue I have to his location is that 'Manus Feeney' is an extremely unusual name and I have only found other Manus Feeneys in Philadelphia or in Limavady, Co. Derry -- that and the town named 'Feeny' not too far away from Limavady. If you have any Moores or Feen(e)ys in your McShane tree, please let me know! You could be part of my missing link.
