Hello, I am new to this list and have learned that ancestors came from County Donegal. The surname is McMackin and they emmigrated to the U.S. in 1847. Patrick McMackin was born about 1790 and his son Daniel was born 1811 in County Donegal. A sister, Catherine was also born in Donegal about 1810. Daniel had a son named John, and he was born in about 1845. Am hoping someone on the list may have access to census records for Donegal, or any records, in the 1840s period to find out what parish they were living in. A family member who traveled to Donegal stated Daniel was born in Clandareadough Parish, but have been unable to find any parishes by this name in Donegal. Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am just beginning to search in Donegal. I am planning on traveling to Donegal next year and trying to gather as much information as possible. Greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me on the list. Sincerely, David Anderson
David, The three households of McMackins remaining in Donegal in 1857 at the time of Griffiths valuation were in Clonca and Muff Parishes. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/iredata/Griff_Val/gv_lm/gv_m46.htm Hope this gives you a starting point.
