To view the 1911 Census for Watertown, you can order it into any LDS Family History Center as it was filmed. Order FHL Film #1999872. The blurb of what's in that film is this : FHL Film #1999872. I'd just like to thank you all for the quick reply to my query and for the information I needed. Have a great day Maureen
Hi everyone, I am off to the LDS to try and order the 1911 census for Ardnagappary/Carrickataskin, would anybody offhand be able to tell me what the number of the film role would be. I must be doing something wrong, I have searched the Family Search site and just havent been able to locate the page that has the film numbers on it. Many thanks Maureen
Hi Janice, Several other members of my ggrandfather James Feeney's family who came over a generation later went through Ellis Island, so I have been thinking that Derry / Moville --> NYC / Philadelphia are most probable, but certainly any valid point of entry during those dates is possible until I have been able to confirm what really happened. Thanks for your efforts so far and for keeping an eye out for him traveling with a McShane... You might try looking up British Films as they started records in Ireland about 1860's. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen Doyle" <marina52@optusnet.com.au> To: <irl-co-donegal@rootsweb.com> Cc: <Donegaleire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2008 5:58 PM Subject: [IRL-CO-DONEGAL] 1911 census for Donegal > Hi everyone, I am off to the LDS to try and order the 1911 census for > Ardnagappary/Carrickataskin, would anybody offhand be able to tell me > what the number of the film role would be. Dear List, For an ancestor born County Donegal. c 1869, where would be the most likely place she would have left from to immigrate to Australia? It is probably in the time frame mid 1870's to 1889. My guess is she came from Tullaghobegley, possibly Cashel. I am also trying with no success to find any marraige record of her parents, Edward Gallagher and Sara McHugh/McCue. Kind Regards, Pam Eustice, South Australia
Here's a link to passenger lists for a few ships that left the port of Londonderry in 1834 and 1850: http://www.immigrantships.net/departures/londonderry.html
Have you checked this ship list _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/abyssinian.htm_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/abyssinian.htm) , also this site is for searching arrivals after 1860: _http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=5_ (http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=5) I would also look at Derry "During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the port of Derry became an important embarkation point for Irish emigrants setting out for America" _http://www.geographia.com/northern-ireland/ukider01.htm_ (http://www.geographia.com/northern-ireland/ukider01.htm) I don't know of any archives on line though. And I think the ships left from an island right off Londonderry but I can't remember the name. And Liverpool embarkation port was the biggest for the area I think. Shipping companies would often include the transport from Ireland to Liverpool in their tickets. The port of Ballyshannon had some transportatiohttp://www.geocities.com/grace280.geo/ballyshannon.htmln but after a series of accidents in the 1870's it became unpopular as a port for larger ships. It did have some Gallaghers listed in this article about it. I have a few other bits I would be happy to send you privately if you would like but let me know you want me to send them directly to you before I do. Hi Janice, In trying to track down my ggrandfather, it's important to know about him that records conflict about his date of birth, age, and immigration date. I dug a little -- here are some of my notes from perusing his census records: . Occupation: Skin sorter (leather factory), 1889-1934, Duncan Hood, near 2nd & Arch, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. 23,170,181,182,183 * Census: 2356 Leithgow Street / age 35, 1900, 19-WD, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsyvania, USA. 1900 United States Census. In the 1900 Census, James Feeney's year of immigration looks like 1891. The page is VERY difficult to read, though. . Census: 2046 Bodine Street / age 42, 1910, 19-WD, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsyvania, USA. 1910 United States Census. In the 1910 Census, James Feeney's year of immigration looks like 1886. . Census: 269 Diamond Street / age 56, 1920, 19-WD, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsyvania, USA. 1920 United States Census. In the 1920 Census, James Feeney's year of immigration looks like 1889. . Census: 522 Tabor Road / age 65, 1930, 42-WD, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. 1930 United States Census. In the 1930 Census, James Feeney's year of immigration looks like 1890. After reading all this, I estimated the immigration/emigration to be 1890, but really I do not know. Thanks again for your interest in my puzzle! -----Original Message----- From: irl-co-donegal-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-co-donegal-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of JANICEFRIEL@aol.com Sent: Friday, April 11, 2008 1:28 PM To: irl-co-donegal@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CO-DONEGAL] immigrant ship lists / Moore Annamarie If you have all those census then you need to tell me what year he immigrated. 1930 Census Column 22 asks for the year of immigration to USA. I've found him in the 1900,1910,1920 and 1930 Censes in Philadelphia. Thanks! I'm still looking for the emigration of my ggrandfather James Feeney (born ca. 1860 in Co. Derry, grew up in Drumaweer, Moville, Co. Donegal, emigrated to and died in Philadelphia, PA, USA). Family legend has it he emigrated with his cousin, a (John) McShane. Most probable dates of his emigration based on family stories, events and census records are 1880-1895. So if you find a shiplist J. Feeney with any McShane (both from Donegal or Derry) I'd be very grateful to know. There were also Moores in this family who were from Co. Derry, most likely in the vicinity of Limavady-Feeny-Claudy. If it turns out Marilyn has a Derry connection after all, we may be working on the same puzzle there, but I don't have anything for her at this time. Hi Janice, I can't confirm any of them as him. He may or may not have emigrated by that time. * In Moville, growing up, he would have worked as a farmer or laborer and I do not know him to have been skilled in a specific trade (like plastering, varnishing or finishing). * According to my late great aunt, his daughter, when he first came over he was in the employ of 'some Moore cousins in Chestnut Hill who had an estate and distillery' or something like that, but I have yet to determine which Moore family/business that was. This Moore family may or may not have been the parents of James' cousin, Father Thomas Moore, who married my ggrandfather 1898 at St. Edward's, 8th & York. Further research with the Philadelphia Archdiocese might help me with that lead, but I haven't had the time to follow it up. * By 1900, was working as a leather worker ('moroco fien' or something like that showed up in some records). All his verified home addresses in the U.S. (ca. 1895-1927) (including a Bodine Street and a Diamond Street address) were in the Kensington/Fishtown section of Philadelphia, the leather factory was I think 8th & Vine or 2nd & Vine. I think he shows up at some of the known addresses Kensington in some of the later Philadelphia City Directories, but without going and digging out a few boxes I have no business rooting around in today, that's all the detail I can remember for now.
