Well, its been quite a while since my last update to the list, so its about time I posted one..........so I've been told! First, here's my website address (I usually forget to include it!) - Donegal Genealogy Resources - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/ The biggest, newest project I added is - Arranmore Island Resources - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/arranmore.htm The 1901/1911 census is complete and there's an index to those census too, 1851 census search forms, land records, maps, events (such as the 1935 Arranmore Disaster), births, marriages & deaths, maps and headstone inscriptions (lots done but still lots to go) I updated a few sections I had gotten behind with - these are what is online or what I have to transcribe, for graveyards & schools - 39 Donegal Graveyards - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/mis.htm - if you have headstone inscriptions to be added to the graveyards already online, want to have your email address linked to any particular inscription, or have any transcripts of other Donegal graveyards you would like to see posted on the website, please email me 25 schools - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/school.htm Now, to get anyone started or educated a bit more on Donegal research, I have Boyd's book on Donegal Family Research in PDF form - it can be found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/genbooklet.pdf and on the main page of my website. Its well worth a read! These are the parishes I have enough on to warrant their own section - this means that I have at least all, or almost all, of the 1901 census for the parish - Allsaints Clondahorky Clondavaddog Conwal / Glenswilly Gartan (complete 1901/1911 + index) Glencolumbkille Gweedore Inishkeel Killea Kilmacrenan / Termon Kilteevoge (complete 1901 + index) Leck Lettermacaward (complete 1901 + index) Muff Raymunterdoney Taughboyne Templecrone / Arranmore Island (complete 1901/1911 + index to Arranmore Island) Tullaghobegly / Gweedore (complete 1901) Tullyfern To be added to parish projects - Aghanunshin Burt If you have an interest in any of those parishes and/or have anything which can be added to them, I would love to hear from you. Other records to be added (this means I have them but they're not transcribed yet) - Workhouse registers, mostly covering 1840s to 1870 - - Glenties (admissions) - Letterkenny (admissions) - Milford (only punishment register) - Strabane (Donegal admissions only) Dispensary registers (clinics people attended when they were ill) - - Dunfanaghy medical relief register (1892-99) - Letterkenny dispensary register (1840s-50s) Petty Sessions (1850s) - Dunfanaghy - Glenties Old Age Pension Applications - 1851 census search forms 1850-1950s Cancelled Valuation books for Clondahorky and Raymunterdoney (these are actually almost done - just need to put them all into web pages) Here are some of the latest additions which can be found at - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/ Incumbered Estates - 1856 Sale of Derryreel East & West, Clondahorky Old Glenties Graveyard Inscriptions & Edenfinfreagh Graveyard Inscriptions, Inishkeel Parish 1901 Census for Tullaghobegly Parish complete, with the addition of Keeldrum Upper & Glashagh Letterkenny Petty Sessions July/August 1858 Trenta Presbyterian Graveyard Getting Started with your Donegal Family Research Booklet added Vaccination Register, Milford Dispensary District, 1853-64 (for 8 Kilmacrenan Parish townlands, including Kilmacrenan Village) Losset National School Register 1893 to 1911 - Boys & Girls Letterkenny Dispensary Register - Gartan people, Jul 1847-Nov 1848 Non-Catholic Marriages, Templecrone, 1845-63 Updated Resources Held at the Donegal County Archives & Library Galwolie Census, Notes, Maps & Photographs Added (anyone with interest in this townland, please email me) These are two new/newish Websites I use and recommend - Placenames Database of Ireland (great for finding those pesky townlands which aren't in the 'official' list of townlands & to get the Irish form of the townland name) - http://www.logainm.ie/?uiLang=en Ask About Ireland - Griffith's Valuation (compete for Donegal, searchable by name/townland, view original valuation and location maps) - http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php As you can see, I'm pretty busy with all of that so I want to let everyone know that if you email me, I WILL read your email and I WILL try to answer it in good time - I MAY even answer quickly if your query is an easy one or your timing is good (!) - but if I'm taking too long, PLEASE email me again and tell me to hurry up (nicely!) - I won't mind at all.............its just that I've found the best thing for me to do when transcribing/updating/etc is to not check emails for a couple of days - I get too distracted! I sometimes get too tired to answer many emails too, or real life gets in the way. I often feel guilty that I've not answered emails - alot - but I do read them all and I will help if I can! I think thats it, though I probably left something out - as usual! Just remembered! The IrelandGenWeb Project now has the 1864 Ireland Birth Index complete and online! It can be found at http://www.irelandgenweb.com/ All the best, LIndel
Members, Have uploaded the last of the Frosses Cemetery gravestone photos. They are a selective extraction from the Frosses Old Cemetery. I have no details on any of the residents other than what is on the headstones http://bobs-ireland.spaces.live.com/?lc=1033 Bob Cdn =========================
Members, For those researching in the Mountcharles area I have added 33 graves to the photo site. This batch is for Frosses New Cemetery the old cemetery is next. Frosses is a few Km from Mountcharles, in years gone-bye most RCs in this part of Inver Parish were buried or married at this church. These are selective photos and only cover a small number of graves. It was raining and the ground was extremely wet, in fact while doing the old cemetery my foot went through the ground and into one of the graves - ( I yelled at CJ that I was going inside for a visit-----) had to return to my B&B and change socks and clothes . Sometimes one needs high rubber work boots to do this job. Hope the file helps someone out there. http://bobs-ireland.spaces.live.com/?lc=1033 Bob Cdn ====================================================

Hi Michelle, We didn't stay in any cottages in Ireland (time too limited) but did do that in a couple of places in Britain. We found this very economical and convenient, especially with a hire car and a plan of where we were going. Some big days but it was great to have a base to come back to and not have to keep packing and unpacking all week. We would just decide if we would cook for ourselves or go to a pub (pubs won most of the time). The only problem I had with the cottages was that they had to be Saturday to Saturday which we didn't necessarily want to do and had to adapt to. Had to have one very big day of driving to get from one to the other. Patrick, Many sailed via Scotland or England so take a look via Google. Hi Michelle, I did the family trip several years ago. We rented a big van but It wasn't too comfortable for driving on Irish lanes. SCARRY. Two cars would be nice to give the opportunity to go in more than one direction and not always have to be together. And if you do that, be sure to think about the number of people and suitcases in making a decision about what size you need. Cabs are not always easy to find. Know before you go if it is a potential problem in areas of interest. I looked on the net for self catering and found it a good place to find what I was looking for. We even rented a 700 year old renovated castle in Galway for a week at a very good price for ten of us. It proved a very good base. And we saved some money doing our own shopping and cooking some of the time. But still ate out a lot. On other trips we have found a place to stay on a daily basis but when traveling with kids and so many of us it was good not to have to do that. Also with so many more folks wanting to be in Ireland from all over Europe as well as the US and Australia it is not as easy to find a last minute B&B. Self catering places usually have a non flexible schedule as to when their week begins and ends so plan accordingly. Prices are also not what they used to be. :>( I prefer autumn travel in Ireland. It is less crowded and rates are usually less and you still have good daylight hours. However the Island is quieting down and there are fewer festivals and musical events etc. And fewer of us who don't know how to drive on the road. Enjoy your trip and the planning before hand.
