    3. I have not heard that idea before, one may have to find a big coffee shop! I have heard rumors that the boys did not all have children, so that may not work well for me. I will tell (can't remember if I have already done this) I wrote out letter to 10 people I found with my rare Rundle name in ireland, it was a big hit and is reason for the trip. Getting a chance to work the McGinley & Gallagher lines is the bonus!! 3. Hi all, I had another thought on spending my pre trip time searching for birth, deaths & marriages. Can anyone tell me who has order through the LDS which I should be looking at first? I noticed indexes then volumes of years. Am I right to think that the idexes should come first, or is there away to know which volume one would need instead of getting the index? I have births and marriages ranging from 1865- 1900. Or any suggestions on how not to spend my flight money on this? Tammy

    3. Mark, I am not sure how much research time I will have while there. Have you tried to order a film in through the LDS? That is the only thing I have found I have been able to do for Ireland, is the census with more ease. My trip is still 8 months away, so I won't make any great promises at this point. I am trying to make my mind get back into the grove of over seas instead of Canada. At this point I would probably be only suited to look-ups in Canadain census or Saskatchewan based stuff. Bridget left Ireland and settled in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, US. She is listed on the 1910 census with her husband John R. DWYER and 5 children, the oldest being age 7. 3. On another list I belong to (Lithuanian language) the moderator was traveling and issued an invitation to meet him at a specific place and time. You could print postcards on your computer and do the same. It would take no time at all to do all 260 names that Liam listed and ask them to meet you somewhere just for the fun of meeting all your McGinley "cousins". Some might, some might not. But you'd probably have a rousing good time. Pick a pub or coffee shop near your lodgings and you'll be surprised how many will show up. And I want you to know how jealous I am that you're going and I'm not. <g> Have a wonderful trip and take lots of pictures for us poor stayathomes. 3. Hi Betsy! The names in brackets are what they had to add to their names to differentiate all the Edwards and Patricks etc.............for instance, Edward Boyce (Michael) is probably Edward, son of Michael, and Patrick Boyce (Peter) is Patrick son of Peter............sometimes instead of father or mothers names, they would use names for where the person lived or the colour of his hair etc - for instance, Biddy Rua Sweeney was the Biddy Sweeney who had red hair! Its funny you should be posting about Boyce and Tullagh - I'm typing up some baptism pages sent to me by Janice and these have Boyce women in Tullagh - I'm only on the first page though, so there may be more. Send me the names and approx year of birth plus any other details which might help and I'll see if there's anything here for you. All the best, Lindel Betsy Rubel wrote: >Hello and I hope spomeone out there can help explain some infor form >Griffiths. > > >I think I may have found a connection to my BOYCE family in Donegal. 3. Hello and I hope spomeone out there can help explain some infor form Griffiths. I think I may have found a connection to my BOYCE family in Donegal. I have found of Griffiths a large chunk of Boyces and many of the names match what I have (big surprise! they could match any family the names are so common but hope springs!) What I hope to understand is what the names in Italics after the occupiers name mean. I have copied a portion as an example... Manus is particularly interesting as my grandfather was Manley. The names that I have are Patrick & Margery as John Boyces parents (father to Manley). There was also a nephew Patrick Boyce in Massachusetts census. 3. Dear Betsy Your problem is that you do not know the Parish or Townland from which John BOYCE & Mary DOWNEY originated. However you are fortunate that they lived in County Donegal during the two major land surveys, Tithe Applotment and Griffiths. You can look up some 1824-1840 Tithe Applotments at the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/tithes.htm On the other hand the 1847-1864 Griffiths valuation has now appeared online in a searchable format at the URL www.otherdays.com. This has opened the field up a lot to a structured computer based search strategy using Civil and RC Parish maps on URL http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/sitemap.htm, modern OS maps available on http://.uk2multimap.com and the old Griffith's Valuation maps available from the www.otherdays.com site. It is possible to use the Otherdays Griffiths for 72 hours on payment of an $8 fee and carry out a search for a person without prior knowledge of the townland, Parish or Barony - just the County. It is also possible to specify a search using variations of the persons name. Enter Burns and a search will be carried out for Burn, Byrne and Burns. It may be possible to track the BOYCES and DOWNEYS down to their Civil Parish and Townland. Subsequent to 1864 Civil records began in Ireland and BMDs were recorded. Prior to that you will require knowledge of their religion to track BMDs through Church records A good site for Parishes and townland names is the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/DonegalMain.html#Civil%20Parish%20Map I don't rate your chances of finding the missing finger Liam "A bird in the bush is worth two in the Cat" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betsy Rubel" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 03, 2003 8:53 PM Subject: [DONEGAL] BOYCE, Patrick and Mary circa 1820s > This is a shot in the dark mailing. 3. Dear Judy You have not stated the religion of the Hanlons. Prior to 1864 the only records were Church based - but which Church in Dungloe? From the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/MTemplecrone.html one would suspect RC but you could confirm. If that presumption was correct then the Hanlon, Dungloe URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hanlon/records/church-donegal-rc-templecr.htm#baptism should be of interest as would the census and headstone records from the same site Liam "A bird in the bush is worth two in the Cat" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Jones" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 01, 2003 11:33 AM Subject: [DONEGAL] HANLON Dungloe > Hello Everyone! > > I am looking for details of a HANLON family from Dungloe. > > Patrick HANLON = Catherine DUDGEON (not date or place) > Children:- > Sam > Thomas > George Grant Clinton Hanlon born 27 Oct 1853 Dungloe - immigrated to USA > about 1871 for 3 yrs and then to Australia about 1874. > Marion > Margery > Christina > others > > Does anyone have access to census records or bapt/marriage records for this > area. > Would appreciate any assistance.
