    3. Donegal Researchers, REF: Exploring Family Origins in Mountcharles, Inver & Donegal Town by Noel Farrell In addition to the data that Janice has posted to the list, most of the data (1901) for this parish including the TOWN of Mount Charles is on my site with all the census data listed, extracted from the LDS census films.. The 1901 data for this electoral district is being posted but it takes time, I am about 70% completed : Enum/Dist/Barony/Parish/Townland--MountCharles/Banagh/Inver/MountCharles Town. The 1911 census data for the TOWN OF MOUNT CHARLES is also posted, in addition there are also "SELECTED SURNAME" extracts from the 1911 census for other townlands in the same area. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/index The above data is also posted at Lindel's site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/ Lindel's site also includes the records of many others who have posted their data to her site. If you are looking for Donegal genealogy data be sure and visit her site. Bob Cdn.

    1. [DONEGAL] Andersons and Fitzgeralds
    2. Seeking any information on Jane Anderson b 1805 Letterkenny, or her brother Fitzgerald Anderson. Their parents were a "Lady Fitzgerald" and a man named Anderson. Their father was probably a James Anderson, as both Jane and Fitzgerald named their first sons James. I have been unable to find a Lord and Lady Fitzgerald living in Donegal in the late 1700s, and assume they must have lived in an adjoining county. Jane and Fitzgerald Anderson emigrated to Montreal before 1825, without their parents. Any help greatly appreciated. Jane in NH, USA

    3. Hi Lindel, I am curious whether you can put maps on your site or want to. I have come across some interesting old ones in the Abercorn records for Co. Donegal. I am currently looking at an 1835 one which includes the tenants for the townlands on the Abercorn Estate. Cheers, Barb --- Lindel <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello everyone! 3. Fellow listers: I'm looking for information on the family of Robert Cook(e), born 1844/45 in Co. Donegal. Robert emigrated to York Co., Ontario, Canada, sometime before 1871. He married Hannah Denby of Yorkshire, England, in Yorkville, Ontario, Canada, in 1875. He died in Toronto in 1921. Robert's parents were George Cook(e) and Jane Boyd. Robert may have had an older brother named James, born 1835/36. The surname Ralston is also of interest. Any assistance would be appreciated. Doug Pattison Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

    3. Thanks to the other Canadian Bob, we have determined that my Jane Elliott is not John's. The father I am looking for is James Elliott, mother Nancy/Ann Clark. My Jane born Donegal 1835, any suggestion out there how to proceed ? She had a sister Margaret born 1829, brother Stephen born 1833. John, for your information, the town of Simcoe Ontario was in Norfolk County, not Simcoe County; small point, but about 100 miles apart. Now known as Haldiman-Norfolk County, on the way from Toronto to Detroit. 3. I have a Jane Elliott, born Donegal 1835. Parents were James Elliott and Nancy/Ann Clark. Do you know where in Canada your Jane Elliott Abercrombie died ? We could search for a death certificate, which should give parents names. 3. I am new to this mail list and have not done any research in Ireland. I know nothing about the BMD index for Ireland. I am also unsure which county my research should be. I am starting with Glenties, Donegal, Ireland. The reason is the person I am searching for father was from their and she was married in Canada by the time she was 23, whice does not leave a very big time frame between birth and marriage. Not the best reason but I have got to start some where. Is there anyone willing to provide me with info on the BMD index in less that 10,000 words? Anyone on the mail list have any Abercrombie's in your data base? Here is all I know about the person I am researching. She is the wife of my first cousin, twice removed. All data I have on her shows her given name as "CHERRY", surname ABERCROMBIE, not a common given name. I found her in a 1920 census age 55 which would make her born 1865 +/- 2 years. Her father was Alexander ABERCROMBIE from Glenties, Donegal, Ireland. I can not find any mention of her before her marriage in Canada in 1888, but she is shown born in Ireland on censuses. I don't know if she came through the US to Canada or directly to Canada. I do know her parents were both born in Ireland. No idea when father died. Mother Jane (Elliott) ABERCROMBIE from Ireland died in 1909 in Canada. I know this is asking a lot, whereever I am provided will help me direct my search area. Thank You John in California

    3. Thanks Ernie, That puts me down to 18 films of indexes for sure. One family is on Inch Island, the second is in Co. Louth. How does one figure out the what the districts would be? Is it possible to get a cert without ordering in the volumes? I am not to worried on the Rundle (1866 to 1887) name in Louth but I think the McGinley (1885-1899) name in Donegal may give me some more trouble. Are the indexes typed or hand written? I have had look up info in England's BMD that is hand written. That can be hard to read. Sorry about all the questions, you are the first person who I have been able to ask these of. 3. Tammy, The volumes are arranged by quarter and by county clusters. The index is the way I went because they list all the "Lastname, Firstname, RegistrationDistrict,Volume,Page". It helped me reduce the number of false orders. Unless you know the exact time of year for a BMD, you have to look through at least one and maybe four volumes. With the index you never have to look at more than two, the index and the exact stipulated volume. Ernie Subject: [DONEGAL] BMD Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 23:51:31 -0600 From: Tammy <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Hi all, I had another thought on spending my pre trip time searching for birth, deaths & marriages. Can anyone tell me who has order through the LDS which I should be looking at first? I noticed indexes then volumes of years. Am I right to think that the idexes should come first, or is there away to know which volume one would need instead of getting the index? I have births and marriages ranging from 1865- 1900. Or any suggestions on how not to spend my flight money on this? Tammy

    3. The URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/MTemplecarn.html indicates the location of Templecarn where Church records began Roman Catholic Pettigo Parish 1836 Church of Ireland Templecarn Parish 1825 Presbyterian Pettigo Parish 1844 Provided they were not Presbyterian some of the children's baptisms should be recorded. The FHS near you should have access to these records. You could also look up the sponsors names (presuming they stayed behind) in the Griffiths valuation 1857. See the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/pettigo.htm where Dennis Gallagher is recorded as having two properties in Pettigo in 1857. Did he take one over from Frank in 1841 when Frank left for Oz.? You could also try the on-line version of Griffiths - The 1847-1864 Griffiths valuation has now appeared online in a searchable format at the URL www.otherdays.com. This has opened the field up a lot to a structured computer based search strategy using Civil and RC Parish maps on URL http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/sitemap.htm, modern OS maps available on http://.uk2multimap.com and the old Griffith's Valuation maps available from the www.otherdays.com site. It is possible to use the Otherdays Griffiths for 72 hours on payment of an $8 fee and carry out a search for a person without prior knowledge of the townland, Parish or Barony - just the County. It is also possible to specify a search using variations of the persons name. Enter Burns and a search will be carried out for Burn, Byrne and Burns. The details of the two Gallagher properties could be interesting Liam "A bird in the bush is worth two in the Cat" ----- Original Message ----- From: "christene hartley" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2003 12:42 PM Subject: Re: [DONEGAL] Gallagher > Hi > I have Gallagher from Donegal in my line > Frank and Mary had a dau Eliza who was > 45 when she came to oz in 1841 with husband > Charles McGrath she was from Donegal he Tyrone > they had 3 children that I aware of Bernard of Pettig > and 2 girls Ellen and Eleanor bn > Templecarane they were in their teens at time f arrival > Christene > > > > ==== IRL-CO-DONEGAL Mailing List ==== > This list is for anyone researching ancestors in County Donegal Ireland.
