Hello there Tracey I wish you luck in your research and hope you find what you are looking for. We have Charles Shields Born 1862 in Dunfanaghy who married Mary or Bridget Duddy in Letterkenny, Co Donegal in 1887. Charles and wife came to Glasgow and settled in Muirhead Street, Partick, Glasgow. Charles' parents from his Scottish Death Cert were Patrick Shields and Mary Sheridan. It would be good if we could link up somewhere. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tracey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 3:24 AM Subject: [DONEGAL] McFaddens, Shields > Hi, > > I am writing from Australia, and I am trying to research the following > people. > > Manus McFadden married Mary Shields 09.04.1882 at Carrigart, Donegal, > Ireland > > They had three children in Ireland, Manus (b1883), Sophia (b 1885), and > Andrew (b 1887) then the moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they had 4 more > children and Mary died shortly after the last child. > > Mary's parents are Charles Shields and Sophia McFadden and they were farmers > and they had deceased by 1900. > > What I would love to know about these people are any birth details, Charles > and Sophia birth, marriage and death details. Nice to see your posting Maureen - you kindly gave me permission to use your photos when I was just starting to research my Donaldsons from Donegal Your page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/cloghan.htm My page http://www.mccaskie.org.uk/Don-Pics3.htm I notice from your website reference to the cemetery near Cloghan Donegal on the road between Ballybofey and Glenties. I was in the area in October on a really foul weather day and took the wrong turn at St John's church, Kilteevoge - I went towards Cloghan Post Office on the minor road instead of Cloghan on the main road to Glenties. Can you please tell me the exact whereabouts of this cwemetary and whether it was for burials for both Roman Catholic and Protestant residents? I found my Donaldsons in Stranorlar C of I burials from 1865, so I hope you can enlighten me. Every so often I post these names hoping someone will recognize them. Edward McDermott and his wife Ann Dowd of Donegal had a daughter, Ann, who was born in Donegal in 1826. She emigrated to New Zealand where she married John O'Neill of Strabane, Tyrone. I don't know where in Donegal they lived. Any help is welcome. Mary McNamara
Hi, the website is Lindel's, just that page is my photos that Lindel put up for me. The cemetery is directly across from the church of St. Joseph and the parish priest's house (which is to the right of the church in the photo, but not seen). The old church, St. Joseph, is now a hall and there's a picture of it here. http://www.finnvalley.ie/kilteevogue/stjosephs.html The newer church 1928 I believe, is behind it. Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. Hi, I am writing from Australia, and I am trying to research the following people. Manus McFadden married Mary Shields 09.04.1882 at Carrigart, Donegal, Ireland They had three children in Ireland, Manus (b1883), Sophia (b 1885), and Andrew (b 1887) then the moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they had 4 more children and Mary died shortly after the last child. Mary's parents are Charles Shields and Sophia McFadden and they were farmers and they had deceased by 1900. What I would love to know about these people are any birth details, Charles and Sophia birth, marriage and death details. And the big one is where they are buried, like what cemetery?? Do you have any good internet site of cemeteries?? Australia is getting quiet a few now, but our history is so so young compared to England, Ireland, Scotland, well your side of the world. The reason I would love to know the cemetery is because Grandmother (she is in her 80's) wants to return and visit the place of her descendants, and I'm trying to make it happen, but having a little bit of trouble from this side of the world. Irish records are hard to find after about 1854. If anyone can help I would be very appreciated, and if there is a living member of the family, I would love to hear from then. My thoughts are Mary's brother and sister probably still live in the area, or Ireland, well I hope so. Kinds regards Tracey >From Australia
I'm looking for any information on James Kyle, who lived in the townland of Carnhill, in the parish of Augnish, Kilmacrenan. I believe he's the father of Thomas Kyle, my ggrandfather. Any information much appreciated. Thanks June Paterson

Dear Bob, I can't thank you enough for sending me the Broadley births listed in Ireland, even though it is not the time frame I am looking for at least now I know I may be looking in the right place. There seems to be a few Owen Broadleys too which is promising as it is an unusual name. Can you tell me where to look for a marriage for Owen Broadley b. around 1828, so likely married about 1853, he may have been married in Ireland, I have checked with Scotlands People and there is no marriage for him there. I also would like to check for a marriage of Hugh Broadley to Agnes McIndoe (guessing at this last name) they are very likely Helen Broadley's parents, (most likely Catholic) Helen was born 1839, so I would like to check marriages for 1830-40, and for Helen's birth. Are there any records I can check for these events in Northern Ireland? (Donegal, Don, Ire. area) I was told by the Ulster Historical Foundation that a special report on surnames in Ireland prepared by the Registrar General Matheson and based on registered births in the year 1890 that the name Broadley does not appear there. Which means that there were less than five registered births for that surname in the whole of Ireland for that year. Now your information has given me some hope of finding my family. Sorry for such a lengthy email, but as you can tell I am excited about your information. Thanks again. Dear List, I am looking for a very elusive family. The family name is Broadley. Owen Broadley b. 1828 Helen Broadley b. 1839, Catholic. Hugh Broadley may be the name of Helen's father. I found Owen Broadley on the 1861 Glasgow census, he gave his place of birth as Ireland. Disappears after that. Found Helen Broadley on the 1861 Glasgow census, she gives her place of birth as Ireland. Helen is my gr. x 2 grandmother. She had one illegitimate daughter in 1862 born in Glasgow. Helen seems to have disappeared around this time. This daughter ended up in a workhouse in Edinburgh until she came to Canada as a home child. I have been looking for my Broadley families roots in Ireland without any success. The Ulster Historical Foundation was unable to help either. However I did come across 1 Broadley in Griffith Valuation in the County of Donegal, Civil Parish of Raphoe, Poor Law Union Strabane, Stranorlar & Leterkenny. The year of visitation was 1857. The 1796 Irish Flax Growers list shows 6 Broadleys all in County Donegal. So here I am, any information or suggestions would be very greatly appreciated. Hopefully someone on this list has come across the name, or can provide me with another avenue to follow. Sincerely, Carol Deckers I think Owen and Helen are related, but not sure how.

> > >If you have received offers by volunteers they should be accessible to the interested researchers to whom those individuals meant the offer to help, so -- put them out where they can be seen as easily as your promise to list them!!! > I started the Parish History Book list two years ago for counties I was researching (Clare, Galway, Limerick, Tipperary, Leix) and it grew to the size it is today. As you can see there are only two entries for Co Donegal and neither have Lookup Volunteers. This is probably because I haven't done any outreach in this county. (Please note, Co. Clare has 31 books with 8 volunteers listed.) So, this month, I joined your list and posted the message when I updated the website in hopes that more Donegal researchers would add books from Co. Donegal and then maybe some would even volunteer to do lookups. I am sorry you were disappointed and all I can say is, if anyone on this list knows of parish history books in Co Donegal, please fill out the form on the website and add the book(s). Also, if you can, please feel free to be a lookup volunteer. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
By chance has anyone ever come across the family of Charles MIDDLETON living around the Grange in co. Donegal. I am unsure of the year(s) they might have lived there, but it may have been sometime around the years of 1820-27, or earlier. In defense of Pat, I've gone to the website she notified us about this past week, and did find look-up volunteers posted at a the end of some of the reference materials. I'm sure not all books she recommends on the site have volunteers. I know, because I have one of the books on the list that doesn't have a look-up volunteer posted. (This particular book is not indexed, and one must read page by page to find names in each place -- a very time-consuming process.) That doesn't mean she's promoting the books for any other reason than letting the rest of us know that we might find a clue or two if we had access to the books ourselves. If there's no volunteer listed, then I suppose our alternatives are to visit our local library or purchase the book ourselves. Sincerely, Tamy in Nevada, USA
