Hello Wilma, For some reason the CD of The Tithe Applotments Index covers only the Six Counties of Northern Ireland so it could be difficult to get a look-up. The 1796 Flax List has one Daniel M'MAHON living in Moville Lower parish Donegal. This is the only M'MAHON entry for Donegal although there is an Elizabeth M'MACON in Moville Upper. You can see the Flax List at freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/ Rob Doragh Liverpool UK "W M Erlandsen" <[email protected]> I am looking for Daniel McMahon, Father of Martin, John and Michael around the 1829 plus period, may have been near Sixmilebridge. I don't know how strongly you feel about the Lifford connection, but there is a Dooghan in Donaghmore civil parish, five miles west of Lifford. I don't see anything else close to Lifford which might look or sound like Doonan. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

Hi Susan, At the moment, I have not found any other names, They seem to be marrying within themselves, Like a Shields married a McFadden and her father McFadden married a Shields, I don't know if the families were related in any way but they seem to be sticking with the two names at this stage and I can't trace any more. I would like to add my experience to this discussion. During my Trip to Ireland October 1997 I visited Heritage Centre, supplied information, paid 150 Punt, which was $300 Aust Dollars. SIX months later I received the same type of Letter. Pages of info re Clan McMahon then on the last page a paragraph to to tell me of the info I had given them and that nothing more could be found as they dont have That Register. A check of their Holdings could have told me that in October. Plus I might add there was NO refund or part of. Spoke to the Locals and was told they received similar complaints over the years. So it looks as if nothing has changed. I am looking for Daniel McMahon, Father of Martin, John and Michael around the 1829 plus period, may have been near Sixmilebridge. Enjoying the List, keep up the good work Best Wishes Wilma in OZ
Hi All, Tonight our group just had a speaker come in to talk about hiring a researcher. Her big thing was that a contract should be made up. Laying out everything and then if they can't do thier job then you have the contract to fall back on. Also that if they have letters behind thier name then they should have a board of ethics to which they report and if you have a complaint then you can take it to them. Enough complaints then they would have their certification pulled. Going for certification is not always a Cracker Jack type education, not if offered by the right place. I am going to beginning mine here in Canada , it is not expensive but I wouldn't want to go through all the work to have mine pulled because I just took someone's money and didn't have anything to show for it. I have heard of other stories like this one in different places. Very good response. I found Croagan . Again, you have been a great help Mike
Hi Mike Look up the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/MClondavaddog.html to find the RC parish of Clondavaddog (Tamney) with the townland of Croaghan Use http://www.multimap.com/ to find Tamney on the shores of Mulroy Bay. If you buy a copy of Discovery Map Sheet 2 from www.elstead.co.uk you should be able to spot Croaghan. In fact should you wish to buy Croaghan Island, it is listed for sale on the URL http://swift.kerna.ie/page/Business/Property/Regional?county=Donegal&town=Fannad&recnum=4976 Try putting in a bid Liam "A bird in the bush is worth two in the Cat" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Sweeney" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 11:08 PM Subject: [DONEGAL] Ships List > Hi, > I am new at this list. Hi there Noticed you have Doohan and Ferry. We are researching these names. We have Patrick Ferry born 1833 in Crossroads, Donegal married to Sarah or Sally Doohan. Children were Ann, James 'Bahn', William who married Hannah (Norah) McGee in 1899 at Carrowcannon, Crossroads, Dunfanaghy. Also Patrick b 1866, Mary b 1874 and Daniel b 1878 in Derryreel, Crossroads - this Daniel married Anne Shields in 1915 in Glasgow. Ann Shields was born in America, according to 1901 census return in Glasgow. Ann's parents were Charles Shields and Bridget or Mary Duddy or Dudgeon. Hope we can make a connection. Our Sarah/Sally Doohan is reported to have been born at Torry Island but we have never been able to get any more information about her apart form the fact she probably died between 1910 and 1915. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrew Young" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 10:10 PM Subject: Re: [DONEGAL] McFaddens, Shields > Tracey: > > Did you come across any other family names, ie > > Gallagher > Doohan > Ferry > Currain > > regards, > > > susan > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Tracey" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 2:24 PM > Subject: [DONEGAL] McFaddens, Shields > > > > Hi, > > > > I am writing from Australia, and I am trying to research the following > > people. > > > > Manus McFadden married Mary Shields 09.04.1882 at Carrigart, Donegal, > > Ireland > > > > They had three children in Ireland, Manus (b1883), Sophia (b 1885), and > > Andrew (b 1887) then the moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they had 4 more > > children and Mary died shortly after the last child. > > > > Mary's parents are Charles Shields and Sophia McFadden and they were > farmers > > and they had deceased by 1900. > > > > What I would love to know about these people are any birth details, > Charles > > and Sophia birth, marriage and death details. Have updated the site for Griffith's Evaluation, Donegal . There are 1366 new names for surnames beginning with "F". URL for site is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte Enjoy Bob Cdn.
Hi, I am new at this list. I found my grandfather on a ships list and do not understand it. It reads, Sweeney Michael, Croghan, near Tamney, Co. Donegal. Would like to where Croghan and Tamney is. I looked on a map and do not find it. Your help is appreciated. Mike
Hi, I am writing from Australia, and I am trying to research the following people. Manus McFadden married Mary Shields 09.04.1882 at Carrigart, Donegal, Ireland They had three children in Ireland, Manus (b1883), Sophia (b 1885), and Andrew (b 1887) then the moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they had 4 more children and Mary died shortly after the last child. Mary's parents are Charles Shields and Sophia McFadden and they were farmers and they had deceased by 1900. What I would love to know about these people are any birth details, Charles and Sophia birth, marriage and death details. And the big one is where they are buried, like what cemetery?? Do you have any good internet site of cemeteries?? Australia is getting quiet a few now, but our history is so so young compared to England, Ireland, Scotland, well your side of the world. The reason I would love to know the cemetery is because Grandmother (she is in her 80's) wants to return and visit the place of her descendants, and I'm trying to make it happen, but having a little bit of trouble from this side of the world. Irish records are hard to find after about 1854. If anyone can help I would be very appreciated, and if there is a living member of the family, I would love to hear from then. My thoughts are Mary's brother and sister probably still live in the area, or Ireland, well I hope so. Kinds regards Tracey >From Australia
