Dear Listers, Could I please impose on someone to look up the 1851 census for Hugh and Martha O'Brien. My grgrgrandfather came to Ontario Canada in 1822. He was single and said when he applied for land in 1823, that he was from Donegal. Now my cousin has found a reference in a book called Families of County Donegal by Michael C. O'Laughlin. "The Old Age Pension Records in Belfast, taken in the 1851 census shows HUGH and MARTHA O'Brien, at FORTSTEWART,AUGHNISH, KILMACRENAN, Co. DONEGAL." If the census has more information, and this is my grgrgrandfathers parents, it will be a tremendous breakthrough for me. Thank you in advance. Bunny, B.C. Hello Betty Ann, The Osbourne name was not commonly found in early 19th century Donegal Really there were only two places there were found these being: The townland of Braade Upper in Glencolumbkille and in Monreagh which is in the Parish of Taughboyne. I should look for evidence of your family in these two locations. I am new to research in Ireland and am looking for the Donegal family of my g.g.grandfather, Moses Osborne, who stated in Canadian documents that he was born in County Donegal in 1794. The only other fact that I know is that he settled in New Brunswick, Canada in 1819 with at least one known relative, Miss Mary Osborne, born Co. Donegal about 1797. I believe they were most likely siblings, and that it is quite likely their father would have been named William. Thanks to some wonderful web sites referenced on this list, I have managed to find where the name of William Osborne appears twice in the 1796 Flax Growers List, reference # 13786 Donegal & # 23971 Londonderry (I do not know what these numbers refer to). The 1796 Spinning Wheel Premium Entitlements List shows Osburn, William, living in Raphoe. The only other William Osborne reference I have found so far appears in the Wills and Deeds Index which shows that he was from Aughigatt and died in 1816. Could some kind person tell me where I might find additional information about these William Osborne entries, or if there might be other records somewhere that could give a bit more information about him and his family? My sincere thanks for your time and effort, Betty Ann in Western Canada

Hi I am looking for a John Murphy who married a Mary? Lavery or Lowry - we beleive both from Ireland. The marriage would have been early to mid 1800's. Offspring included Michael Murphy a Tailor, so it is likely that John was a tailor too. Other surname interests are Cassidy and Sweeney Thanks Debra

Dear Peter Re: 2 of there sons became (RC) priests in Sydney Australia. relatives now spread from Ireland, England, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. regards Peter. Those Oz priests must have started the new trend in the church. The URL http://www.gmts.co.uk/trivia.htm tells all about Daniel Boyle in Manchester. I have updated the Ireland Book Discussion Mailing List website which includes Ireland Parish History Books, Genealogy Books, History Books, Local History Books and other categories of Ireland Books, including new ones for Archaeology and Emigration. Many books have been added and most have lookup volunteers. You can access the webpages at the URL below my name, under Ireland (drop down menu at top of home page) click on Ireland Books under Ireland. You will find the links to the various book webpages at the bottom of the Ireland Book Discussion Mailing List webpage under 'Ireland Book Webpages'. If you made any submissions last month, please check for accuracy. If you submitted a book and want to change submission (email address, lookup volunteer, etc), fill out another form and put 'change' in the field where you want the change. If anyone has or knows of books not listed, you can fill out a convenient form on each of the book list webpages and I update the website at the beginning of each month. Thanks to everyone for making these webpages a very good resource for all those doing Ireland research and a very busy place on the internet. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton
Hi, I've been watching this site for a good while, hoping that you'd get to Rourke (O'Rourke) before I went to Ireland. But looks like we'll not see it before we go this weekend!! I surely can see it in Donegal. I enjoy watching this site. trying to find my grandfathers family. maybe this story will sound familiar in someones tree. james o'donnell born early 1900s. his parents were supposed to be patrick & mary(he could have lied).he came from a well-to-do-family. james was a sailor. he married someone in 1920s, dont know who. they had some children. she remarried and the children took their stepfathers name, dont know what. james had some sisters. he was a prominent member of the i.r.a. he went to canada in 1928, married my gran whilst still married!! was deported back to ireland mid 30s. has someone got this story in their tree? mark
Have updated the site with new census data: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/ 1901 Census for Ireland - County Donegal Pettigo-Grousehall-Tirhugh-Templcarn-Carn The ages for the No. 12 Reilly family are missing, not sure if they were in the original data or I just missed them. Will look if and when I see the film again at the FHC. Enjoy Bob Cdn.
Hi all, If any one is interested I got some baptisms for the names above. I wrote for a search of these two names from the Derry Genealogy Centre. This part of what I got that doesn't yet connect to my interest. The search was for there database from 1850-1900. for the area of Inch, Burt & Fahan. I would recommend them highly. It was alittle more costly then I like to spend but it was worth it. It only took 3 1/2 weeks from the time my letter went in the mail until the reply came today. Hope this helps someone.
