    2. The Scott Family
    3. Hello from Aus My paternal line has been tracked to Ballynamen, Donegal c 1800 and one day I hope to visit just to stand on the spot. However, I am puzzled that the name HARDY doesn't seem to rate a mention as an Donegal/Irish name. Can SKS explain if this is a traditional Irish name or is it likely that the Hardy's were part of the "plantation" of King James 1.I have read this much! It is probably obvious that I am a novice. Thanks for your help. Tracey - Australia.

    3. I am researching the BURROW(E)S family and would be interested to hear from anyone with information between 1750 and 1850. Any connections with the following, in particular, would be most welcome. 1. Doctor Thomas BURROWS b. abt 1801 Ireland. Married Jane MOTHERWELL and had at least 4 children, Thomas, Alexander, William and Emma - born mid 1830's - 1840. Dr. Thomas BURROWS died 6th August 1883 aged 81 and is buried in Ballysumaghan, Sligo county, Ireland. His wife died 10th December 1875 aged 66. 2. Thomas BURROWES b. 26th July 1801 Dundalk, Louth to Lt. Johnston BURROWES and Mary BURROWES (nee DEVEREUX). 3. Andrew BURROWES b. abt 1813 County Sligo. Convicted of highway robbery and sentenced 1835 to life in NSW Australia. Transported on the ship "Hive" which was shipwrecked and finally arrived Sydney 24th December 1835. 3. Hello Dorothy I am transcribing some birth records for Malin Presbyterian Church Co Donegal (Inishowen) and I came across the following Date of Baptism: 5 August 1877 Name of Child: Mary Louisa Armstrong Sex: F Name of Father: William Armstrong Name of Mother: Mary Jane Wilson Occupation of Father: Sub Constable. Unfortunately there is no other information. I would think that he would have been with the RIC if he was a sub constable and I presume that because the child was baptised in Malin that he was stationed there at the time. Perhaps this helps. 3. Dorothy, I would go to the nearest Family History Center and order the Irish Civil Birth Registration Index for 1895. That would be the LDS Microfilms 1894-1895 Index of births FHL BRITISH Film 101065 1896-1897 Index of births FHL BRITISH Film 101066 Once you have the film you will see entries by quarter. Each film will have eight quarters on it. You need to check EACH quarter. The pages are arranged by surname so look for the page(s) containing ARMSTRONG and then for the forename. To the right hand side of each entry is a "Reporting District". Unfortunately, the index does not indicate county but, the reporting districts that are in Donegal are: Glenties Milford Donegal Ballyshannon Inishowen Stranorlor Dunfanaghy Strabane Letterkenny and in rare cases Londonderry So, ignore any births not in one of those districts. My wife's great grandfather (R.I.C.) had children born in Glenties, Milford, and Letterkenny as RIC personnel were moved around as needed in each county. I found my wife's grandmother and siblings by this method. Although the birth registration records themselves are not filmed (1881 - 1900 not available for filming), you can find the Year, the Quarter, the Volume, and the Page of registration. You should have reasonable luck in matching names - expecially as Donegal did not have an enormous population. Then, contact the Republic of Ireland http://www.groireland.ie/ and get a certificate. Good luck, Ernie ----------------------------- I have re-subscribed after quite a long absence but am trying to find information on my uncle, ROBERT HENRY ARMSTRONG. I don't know where he was born but as his father was in the R.I.C. in Donegal at the time I am starting off here. He was not the first born as it was usual for the mother to return to where she was brought up to have her first child. When my uncle was old enough (again I don't know the age) I have been led to believe he joined the British Army for, I think, 3 years and a big part of that time he was serving in Scotland. Could some kind person point me in the right direction to try and find his birth details. All I know is that he was born in 1895 and he died in Wandsworth, London, in 1938 having joined the Metropolitan Police when he left the Army. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dorothy.

    3. Dear Dorothy Re your uncle and his RIC father - put "Postman Bill" into the Google search engine. Click on "Book: Postman Bill" and then "Contents" Choose the chapter "Early Reid History" and read the account of Sergeant Patrick Charles Reid. Note that RIC recruits never served in the county they came from, were not allowed to marry until 7 years in the force and were then transferred out of their wife's county. 1. Irish books website update
    2. ConnorsGenealogy
    3. Yesterday, I updated the Irish books section of my website by adding more books in the following categories: Parish History books, Local History books, Genealogy books and Irish History books. Also, I have added some Volunteer Lookups to books already listed thanks to the many who write me to offer the volunteer lookups. This is an interactive website where you can submit books that are not listed and on a monthly basis, I update the site with the new submissions. You can access this webpages by going to the URL below my name. On my homepage, at the top, under Ireland, click on Ireland Books. This will take you to the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List website, at the bottom of the page, you will find links to the Parish History Books By Counties and to the Ireland Book List, these are two separate sections of the website. If you have any questions and/or comments about the site, please contact me off list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

Hi All, I know I am late in doing this up to my eyes at work and doing wedding cakes , also that many of you have probably seen my brick wall before but if you can be patient as you always are I will note my interests once more:- Charles Boyle married to Helen Gallocher/Gallacher Children Ann c1831, Mary c1836 and James 1841 Charles' sister Margaret Boyle also married a Gallocher/Gallacher, first name not known as he is not with her in the 1851 Census. Her son Charles c 1818, wife Mary c 1821 and children Catherine c 1844 and Mary c1849 (she is the only one born in Scotland - Blantyre). They came from Donegal possibly the Glenties area yet to be confirmed. Thanks for taking the time to read this again. Beth ----- Original Message ----- From: "ConnorsGenealogy" <[email protected]>

    1. 1821 Census of Townlands
    2. Barbara Braswell
    3. Does anyone know the film number or wherabouts of a document listing the 1821 Census of Townlands in Donegal. I recently saw on Donegalaire a posting for Taughboyne and All Saints and would like to view a copy of it. It evidently gives the townland, number of acres and number of occupants. Thanks!!
