You can do it for yourself, too, if you go to www.clarelibrary.ie , click on GENEALOGY, then scroll down in that long list of savory databases the Clare Library has given us, looking for 1841 Applicants to the Registry of Freeholders. You'll find a very good description of what a freeholder was, as compared to a landlord. Good luck!
