    3. Hi Sharon, I work with two computers, main desk top and laptop. Also, at my local Family History Center, they have a machine that will scan images from films into a computer. I use to use a number of the external thumb drives (memory sticks, flash drives, etc. they go by a number of names). You can get a gigabyte stick for $50 on sale at Staples, sometimes even cheaper. I organize all my files in My Documents and categorize them in folders. Like for my website, the different sections each have a folder, like Co. Clare I call Connors-Clare (Connors=website, Clare=section). Once a month, I copy all the folders to the memory sticks, it takes two. This is my backup, in case of a crash. Also, when I travel I just update the My Documents from the sticks to my laptop and will then have all my data at hand, no matter where I am. That way, in down time, I can add and/or update my webpages. Also, when I go to the FHC, if I have a new film, like the tithes that are currently my project, I just copy/scan the images I want and then when I go home, I can transcribe them at my leisure and in my pjs. This is a wonderful invention, the scanner of images. I am working on a project with volunteers transcribing the 1875 NYS census for Troy NY. I just copy each page as an image which I can then send to a volunteer to transcribe attached to an email. However, things got a bit messy because I had so many memory sticks, so I bought and external hard drive, which holds 150 gigs. However, before my trip to Florida, I realized I was using it wrong and I corrupted a number of the files I had on it. It wasn't a great lost because it was a backup. Now, when I find some time I need to get it formated and try using it again. Sorry, this is so wordy, but I didn't know how to make it shorter. Thanks for the kind words. I am sorry I gave up the Clare list, and the Limerick list, and the Galway list but the last two turned into good hands so now I am only sorry about the Clare list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
