Dear Joan, I am sending this reply to the other sites, so that anyone also working on Sheedy might read it. As I have written before, my Sheedy's came from Lisnafaha. Where they were before then, I do not know. My grandmother was Margaret Sheedy. Her father was Thomas Sheedy. His father was also Thomas. Margaret's uncle was a Michael. Margaret had brothers named Michael and Thomas. The older Michael came to WI, USA. The brother came to Philly, PA, USA. Margaret had an aunt named Anne who married a [Patrick?] Clancy. I think all the children of this marriage came to the States. Some to PA and maybe one [married to a Darcy] to NY. I think that the father died in Co Clare. I do not know if Anne came to the States. There seems to be a lot of Hehir's in Co Clare, but I am not researching that name. I do not know where your Gortmore is compared to my Lisnafaha. There is a site called Sheedy Speaks where there are listings of Sheedy's. My Thomas and Nancy O'Connor are there. These are my Margaret Sheey's parents. Some of her siblings are listed as single entries. Hope this may help. BTW, my grandfather and his siblings usually wrote the name as Scanlan, but some started to change the name to Scanlon, as my father did. Six months ago the name Sheedy would have had no connection to my own family research. However, I just recently learned that my g,g, grandmother was named Anne Sheehy, married to Patrick Hehir in 1838. My recent research indicates that the family name can be spelled Sheedy or Sheehy. It appears that they lived in or around Gortmore. Anne had three siblings Pat Sheehy (married to a Bridget Halloran), Mary Sheehy (Stephen Neylon) and Michael Sheehy (Mary McNamara). I am wondering if there is any possibility that these families could be connected. Just a shot in the dark but I thought I would send it along.
