You must have an amazing associative memory, Sharon, to connect the Thomas Verlin of Kilkishen to my family. In the baptismal records of our family in 2Q of the 19th century various Verlins pop up as sponsors* but I have never definitively located that family. It was my assumption that because several different Verlins are listed as sponsors it would most likely be a family living in the vicinity of mine, i.e. near the townland of Shanballysallagh in the parish of Kilkeedy. In the GV there is a Judith Verling in Rinecaha and there is a John Verling in Derrylumman, both places being within walking distance of Shanballysallagh. Regarding the Vesey-Fitzgerald connection, I have come to the tentative conclusion that my GGF's landlord might have been William, Lord Fitzgerald and Vesci, born 1783, who lived in Lahardan House in the parish of Inchicronan very near my GGF's home. Lahardan House was burned down a few years prior to 1820 and the family then went to live in Moyriesk House (which I have not yet located, but the name 'riesk', which means a marshy area covered with rushes, tantalisingly suggests that it may have been in the plain of the Moyrhee river, i.e. also near my GGF's home which abuts directly on the riesk of that river). But now your Kilkishen connection is giving me food for thought. Thanks for making this association. He is likely (same time period) the same Thomas Verlin who appears in the Kilkishen area in the GV. Just as I am taking more and more note of the names appearing in Kilrush east to Newmarket and finding the Studderts as landlords in all of those areas, I know that you are looking at instances of Vesey-Fitzgerald.
