Thank you, Pat. I now have enough information to make a sensible decision. While I have enjoyed the interaction on the traditional Clare list for many years (again my thanks to you for that opportunity), I will now be putting my efforts in another direction, since there is an undisclosed size limitation which impacts me considerably. My postings can easily exceed the size limit, and also I cannot continue when a list administrator cannot be candid about that and other changes made. I am anyway in the process of transferring my notes of Dublin Archives material into computer files to donate to the Clare Library. Again, I find myself admiring the efforts which precede mine, such as that of yourself, Pat, and of Cathy Joynt Labath, to have spent so many hours doing just that and putting the info on the Web so that others can benefit. It is such a grind to keep doing all that typing. At least I for the moment do not have to also figure out how to construct a website and do the maintenance, including cost factors. I find it pitiful to see all the postings on Rootsweb lists about how long people have been searching on Ancestry.com and not making progress. I need to distance myself from those. Perhaps I will not miss the interaction on the old Clare list. It really is a bunch of "help me" pleas to which I can only donate time, over and over again, in tutorials on how to make progress. The last thing such people want to hear is that the key to their success lies in becoming knowledgeable. Far too many of those posters just want instant answers and do not care to reciprocate. Not my kind of folks. My fascination with Clare history and the saga of the diaspora remains as strong as ever, and I will continue those pursuits. For those who can make use of actual data and who put the effort into analysis, watch this space and keep up with what the Clare Library places on the 'Net, because there can and will be so much more. Well put, Sharon. Your "......the last thing such people want to hear is that the key to their success lies in becoming knowledgeable. Far too many..........posters just want instant answers and do not care to reciprocate........." gets my Five Hearty Thumps on the Table for the month of April. I've become fed up with listers who, when one takes time to help them on their first steps, either don't reply or come back with "gosh, thanks for all that material, I'll read it when I have time to get round to it....". I admire your temperate statement of the problem.
