Dear List, First want to thank the person who emailed my about my Off Topic request. Giant help and may have saved some lives because of what I was able to do thanks to her. I may never know myself the help that I was able to do. Ok, Patrick and Sharon, on to you. Do you know of a land lord "some what" near Cappanagerrah? My father would not talk about his childhood, as I have said. Once in a blue moon, he'd give a scrap away. My father talked about walking a cow home and he was not happy with that cow. [He should have had one of my German Shepherds to help him, as one of mine is tops in so doing and loves her stock.] Anyway, he might have had to go to the landlord to get her. Either he or someone else said that the landlord really liked my gfather and gave him title to the land. My kin were there since say the late 1700's or early 1800's. I am guessing that the handling over of the title would have been sometime from 1864 when he was born to 1921. My father said that there were old towers all over the area. I do not remember if he said that the landlord lived in a "castle" or not. Any knowledge?? landlord, special living place?? Thanks. Alanna
Alanna, That's an intriguing inquiry, which I shall work on as soon as I unzip and sort the computer files now transferred from my old computer. I have a file for "estate related" items, into which I place those placenames when shown as associated with a particular one of the landed gentry. I will try to do that tomorrow, as a special outdoor project is getting done today. BTW, what exactly do you mean when the title was handed over in 1864 ? Deeds(and many leases) are well organized and indexed at the Registry of Deeds (Henrietta St., Dublin) , with one index arranged by placename in a county and the other set by individual's surname. The LDS has filmed all that, although the films are a huge number due to the span of time starting in the early 1700s. Sharon C.
