Searching of the 1820s/1830s Tithe Applotment records for County Clare has now been greatly facilitated by a new surname index just posted on the Clare Library website at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/tithe_applot/name_index/s urname_index.htm This index makes it much easier to plot clusters of names in the county and thereby derive hints as to relationships between individuals in the clusters. Thanks, Paddy, for the update. How much easier this is now... of course, as always, had to wander around the site, and once again checked the 1901 census for my family. Yes, they are still there, Dillons of Kinturk DED, Cloonbooly. It always makes me smile to see my grandmother, Bridget, aged two months listed as unable to write and not married. She died when my own mother was just 11, but from what I know of her, she had a wicked sense of humour. I'm sure she would see the funny side of it as well. Thanks to Liz Haren and all others who have transcribed the Tithe Applotment records.
