    1. [IRL-CLARE-PROJECTS] Another project suggestion
    2. Sharon Carberry
    3. Here is an ambitious suggestion: someone could contact Rosemary ffolliott (or her estate's representative, if she is deceased) to gain permission to extract the Clare newspaper items in her series which is on microform, held in so few places (Dublin/Genealogical Office, Ennis/Clare Library, Chicago/Newberry Library are the ones I know of): Index to biographical notices in newspapers of Limerick, Ennis, Clonmel and Waterford, 1758-1821 I should note that this series itself is an extraction, as Dennis Ahearn (TIARA) has shown me the difference between the original articles and the details preserved in the ffolliott series. However, all the good details are extracted. I have these for two of my surnames (it's arranged by surname, not by county), and I can attest that, while many articles concern the landed gentry, there are also many instances of the "common folk" getting in trouble or doing newsworthy things. While I am more in need of details for the 1830s/1840s than I am yet for the first two decades of the 1800s, if permission could be secured, then the material could be obtained from the Clare Library, as I assume they would love to have the chance to put this on their website. Also, the author may be more inclined to cooperate when an Irish institution is involved. Sharon Carberry USA

    1. [IRL-CLARE-PROJECTS] Telephone directory help
    2. Ruth Brooks
    3. Asking a personal favor -- hope no one minds. Sometime in the last year I found a site with Clare directory listings and now don't know how to find it again. Some years ago we were able to locate a cousin of my husband's living in Lissycasey, met him in Ennis about 8 years ago, and have exchanged notes with him over the years. Now he's not answering our mail and we're concerned. I believe I saw a directory listing for him: Tom/Tommy/Thomas Kennedy in Lissycasey. Would someone in Ireland be kind enough to send me either the number or tell me how to access the directory. Thanks for any help, Ruth

    3. Hi Vanessa, >From your website: "Jimmy Kierse married Winifred Brady - Killeen, Corofin, Co. Clare Oliver Kierse - Kilfenora Alfie Kierse Sean Kierse - Killaloe Paddy Kierse Vera Kierse Eileen Kierse Hurley Dymphna Kierse Mona Kierse Clare Kierse Mary Kierse " Just wanted to add that Oliver KIERSE (Kilnaboy Commons) died May 2004. Wife's name Mary and children were Michelle, Dorothy, Susan, Mary, Claire, Oliver, Hailey and Joseph. I met Oliver when I first moved here and unfortunately he died suddenly shorty after. His brother Alfie KIERSE (Kileen, Corofin) died November 2005. Paddy Casey suggested you contact Sean KIERSE he is their brother. I'm sure he'll have more information. irl-clare-projects@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Anyone on this list have any connections or knowledge of the > Kierce/Kierse/Kearse/Kearce families of County Clare? > > Here is my website > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~burzynsk/ > > Here are my surname projects > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~burzynsk/kierce.htm > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~burzynsk/kearse.htm > > Thanks! > > Vanessa Kierce Burzynski > Texas > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-CLARE-PROJECTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ----------------------------------------------------------------- Find the home of your dreams with eircom net property Sign up for email alerts now http://www.eircom.net/propertyalerts

    3. I saw your posting on information including the name of O'Halloran. I have a great-great grandfather, Patrick O'Halloran, arrived in Alden, Illinois USA around 1843, came from County Clare Ireland. Patrick married Johannah MCGrath around 1845 in Illinois, had several children. So far I have had no luck finding additional information on Patrick. Just curious as to whether or not there is a connection to your O'Halloran lineage. Thanks! 2. Larry, What a tremendous amount of research! Interesting to follow the path. Makes me think my 5 days in Ennis in May won't be near enough to find my kin when all I have are a few names, one birthdate & no definite places other than Co. Clare & where I could find Patrick FITZPATRICKS in Griffith's lists. Also sure makes me wish you were related to FITZPATRICKs or McNAMARAs. So, I will plan on enjoying the scenery, the music & whatever else comes my way! Jo Banks ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [IRL-CLARE-PROJECTS] County Clare Library forum
    2. Patrick Casey
    3. On the Clare County Library website home page under Special Services (the place you go for the Browsealoud facility) you will find a link with the eye-catching name Library Forum A partnership of Clare County Library and Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library. If you click on that link you will see that the Clare Library, in partnership with the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library in Nova Scotia, has been working on a Library Forum with a section called Clare Past which covers Genealogy, Archaeology, History, Heritage & Folklore. The forum has not yet been publically announced because the plumbers and carpenters and electricians and decorators are still in there tightening screws, making adjustments and applying coats of paint but I have been assured that family historians who want to enrol are at liberty to do so. It would be preferred if people would sign in under real names or real-sounding names rather than nicknames like Gonzo or TrendyMan but that's up to you it seems. I've joined up and no-one has debited my credit card so it seems to be free. So go over there, sign in at the door, and take a walk through the colonnades of the Library forum. Paddy

    2. Josie, I've got Mary McNAMARA with Pierse CREAGH as parents to Fitzperse CREAGH born 1653, Dangan, Co Clare. Fitzperse buried Ennis Abbey. I know it's outside your dates but could be from the same line. I was looking for Creagh on familysearch I think & found a long line, took me 2hrs to sort them out and put on FTM. She is right at the end & I couldn.t find parents or siblings but will try later on surnamenavigator. You might want to go to Ennis Abbey eh. One of my ggggmas was married to Pierse John CREAGH for 7yrs in Sydney before he died. No kids that I can find. Cheers. 2. Jan Vernon
    3. Hi Fellow Researchers, I was wondering if there is any discussion or plan to have the Birth, Marriage and Death Registration Index of Ireland transcribed so it is available on a web site. Perhaps something similar to FreeBMD for England. This seems to be a resource that is not readily available, especially to those who live on the other side of the world. Just a thought. 3. The Registrar's Office in Dublin is already digitising the BMD records. I don't know whether there are plans to put them on line (at a price) but I'm not sure whether there would be added value in digitising the records a second time apart from ensuring that they become accessible without charge. Or have I misunderstood something here ? Paddy -----Original Message----- From: irl-clare-projects-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-clare-projects-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of DLCulhane@cs.com Sent: 29 March 2007 15:30 To: irl-clare-projects@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CLARE-PROJECTS] Birth, Marriage & Death Index of Ireland The civil indexes are kept by the GRO, not the Church, and have been filmed by the LDS. I think it would be a great volunteer project because the indexes are typeset so there's no difficult reading to guess at. In fact, I wonder if the entries could be scanned by an OCR system and then combined into larger chunks of time, say 5 or 10 years. Eventually, of course, the goal would be to have the indexes span the period from 1864 through, say, 1964, but 5- or 10-year chunks would be a great start, much easier than looking at 3 months at a time. 3. It was my understanding that LDS was digitizing their records and putting it on their website. The last time I was at our local FHC they said the project was completed and LDS was just needing the permission from all the areas involved to put THEIR records on LDS site. I dont know if the information that I had received was correct or not. I was also told that LDS was not going to charge for access to their site either. I can not imagine that the original holders of the BMD records would be quite that willing to hand over to LDS the permission to post. Many of these areas use it as a means of making money and to promote tourism. I had also heard there was a question abt. legal rights to this information and the posting it for general public. Currently "Privacy Issues" are not well defined. Debbie
