    3. Dear Listers, My entry in the Co Clare Roll Call is the family of Michael and Anne (nee Collins) McMahon, from Ballycorey in the parish of Templemaley. Five of their children came to the Victorian goldfields: Thomas McMahon married Honora Hartigan in Barefield in 1854, three weeks before sailing for Australia. Also on board were several of Honora’s siblings. Mary and Ann McMahon travelled with Thomas and Honora, on the Coromandel, arriving in Adelaide in January 1855. They later travelled to the Bendigo goldfields in Victoria. Patrick McMahon came directly to Melbourne on the Lady Milton in 1857 and then on to Bendigo. Catherine O’Brien (nee McMahon) came to Bendigo in 1885 as a widow. Her husband was John O’Brien from Cappagh Beg. It is reasonable to assume they would have had a brother Michael, named after their father. Also, each sibling named one of their daughters Veronica. My guess is the five who came out to the goldfields left behind two siblings Michael and Veronica, who perhaps had died or who decided to remain in Ireland. I would love to hear from anyone researching this family, Marg Watson, Bendigo, Victoria.
