    1. Re: [IRL-CLARE] Roll Call - HAIRE/HAIR; BOLTON

    3. Hello everyone, from Sunny, Wintry Newcastle in Australia. My brickwalls in Clare are: 1. Anne BOLTON arrived in Newcastle, Australia, some time before October 1856, because that is the day she married Charles HILL, a devout Catholic, from Selby in Yorkshire. She was illiterate and I have not been able to find her immigration record. Her death certificate states that she was from Co. Clare and her parents were Michael BOLTON, a farmer, and Catherine MCNAMARA. Anne was born about 1836. She and Charles HILL had 10 children and Anne died in 1899 of 'Fatty Heart'. I also found a brother for Anne in Newcastle - He was Michael BOLTON, born about 1840 in Scaraff, Ireland (Death certificate). His parents were Michael BOLTON, farmer, Catherine MCNAMARA. He married Catherine WALL about 1863 in Ireland. Both died in Newcastle 1911 and 1916 respectively. I am not sure about his immigration record either. I can find no children for them in Australia. 2. Hanora/ Nora HAIRE, HAIR and other variations She was born about 1829 Co. Clare - she next appears in South Africa, Cape Town, she is married there in 1851 to Richard CHADWICK from Tipperary and they have a daughter Mary in 1852 and she was baptised in Port Elizabeth. The family then went to Victoria on the 'Australasian Packet' and arrived there 12.7.1852 - I suspect he was looking for gold. A son, John CHADWICK, was born Victoria in 1854 (no record of his birth, probably on the goldfields) and in 1855 the family arrived in New Zealand on the "John Scott". I have no clues as to her parents names. She had a son John and daughters, Mary, Bridget, Agnes and Margaret. Not much to go on, I know. Nora CHADWICK died in April 1880, age 51, listing no parents, except to say her father was a farmer. To put a further spanner in the works, two of her daughter's death certificates state that her maiden name was CORBETT. One of those daughters on her marriage certificate 13 years after Nora died, said that CORBETT was her mother's maiden name as well. Everywhere else her name is recorded as variations of Haire/ Eyre... or not recorded at all - no record of the marriage in South Africa has come to light yet. I am hoping someone on this list may be able to help with my Clare brickwalls. Regards Judy
