My great grandfather was Charles Arthur, he was born in Barfield in County Clare in 1854. (Civil parish of Doora, Kilraghtis, Templemaley) He and his brother James were both baptized in the RC Parish of Doora/Barfield. He arrived in the US in 1865 at Castle Garden. No family members were listed as traveling with him. His mother was Bridget Roache born about 1833, we believe her husband's name was Michael Arthur. As to date no marriage record has been found. There was another son,John, but no idea where he was born. Bridget settled in NYC, remarried. She died in 1884 leaving a will that stated she had three sons, Charles and John living in NYC and James who was reported to be in Australia. Bridget's obituary stated she was from County Clare. Her death certificate states her father was Thomas Roache and her mother was called Bridget. It is thought Bridget was a widow when she arrived in the US. But after 20 years of searching no boat record has been found. It is believed that she arrived about the time of her son Charles or before. She shows up in the 1880 census married to her second husband. We are not sure which church Charles was baptized in. The letter from the Heritage Center stated that the dates and parents names were listed, but that the parish priest was covering several churches at the time and had not listed the name. Charles father's name Michael was on the baptism record. In the Immigrant Savings Bank, Bridget Arthur (widow of Michael) is listed as having an account for her son James. This was in 1876. I have no idea what happened to John or James Arthur. My grandfather was Thomas Arthur, youngest child of Charles. Thomas and his siblings were sent to live with maternal relatives after their mother died and Charles disappeared. (1889) My grandfather never really spoke of his Arthur relatives, all his siblings were dead by 1917. If any one knows anything about this family please contact me. Thank You, Diane Arthur Kennedy
