Hello All, I research the John-Margaret (Clair) Hayes family of Liscannor, Co. Clare. Five of their seven children emigrated to the US between the late 1890's and 1910, first to Lowell, MA, through Boston. Most of those seven eventually moved to Brooklyn or Manhattan and died there. I've discovered that these Hayeses were related in direct or indirect ways to other Liscannor families, such as the Quaileys (various spellings), the Donohues, and the O'Donnels/Donnellys, among perhaps others. And passenger lists indicate that Hayes' Liscannor kinfolk also initially emigrated to Fall River, Somerville, and E. Cambridge, MA. I understand that this great out-migration was not unusual in Co. Clare, and perhaps in many other places in Ireland where civil and economic troubles led people to seek better circumstances in the US. To get a rough feel for the migration from Liscannor, I collected this information. ### IRISH CENSUS, 1901 and 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ Search terms County Clare, Townland/Street*, Liscannor 1901 315 males and females 1911 283 males and females * Townlands: the basic topographical units, the smallest land denomination in Ireland, for rural areas, and streets for urban areas.
