    1. Re: [IRL-CLARE] re Hanora HAIRE/ HAIR /EYRE/ AYRE
    2. The Tithe Applotments on the National Archives site show one Haire in Inchicronan parish, 7 Hairs in Clooney, Doora, Quin, and Drumcliff. (No Ayres or Eyres, but a few Hares.) None of those parishes is near Tipperary, which would tend to support your guess they married after Ireland. You might look for her baptism on rootsireland.ie, but keep in mind church records from that period are pretty spotty. Still, you might get lucky. Her name is Hanora HAIRE/ HAIR/ AYRE/ EYRE. On documents, her Christian name is sometimes shortened to Norah, and on one to Ann Norah. All I know about Hanora's life before New Zealand, is what I have found on the various births, marriages, deaths etc. of her children and her own Death certificate. Her death certificate says she was born in Co. Clare., no parents listed, but her father was a Farmer. She was 51 years old when she died in 1880, so born about 1829. She was 22 years old when she married Richard, so married about 1851. The various certificates of her children show that they weren't quite sure what her maiden name was, see above. One of them even said her maiden name was Norah CORBET. (where did that come from?) Sometime before 1852, Hanora arrived in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, South Africa. I haven't found out how she got there or when. I assume she married Richard Chadwick, from Tipperary, there, sometime before that. I haven't been able to find a marriage certificate yet. I have their daughter's baptism and birth record which shows that she, Mary, was born in February 1852 to Richard and Norah Chadwick. Richard was a 'domestic servant'. She was baptised in an Anglican Church (I believe this was due to the fact that there was no Catholic Church established in Port Elizabeth at the time). Richard, Norah and daughter Mary, then swam (?) to New Zealand and arrived there in 1855. They had 4 more children in New Zealand, all raised as Catholics. Daughter Mary was re-baptised in the Catholic Church in New Zealand. I have their confirmation certificates as well. I know this is a big ask, and a very broad background on Hanora / Nora, but I hope somebody may be able to help.
