    1. [IRL-CLARE] Hayes in Liscannor
    2. Judie and List, These are the families I'm researching. Note the repeated forenames. ##### Liscannor Family of John & Margaret Hayes == 1901 census, 37 Liscannor: John age 55/birth yr abt 1846; Margaret 48/1853; John 27/1874; Mary 25/1876; Martin 21/1880; "Ellon" (Ellen) 17/1884; Kate 15/1886 (her application for US Social Security account reported dob 1885 Dec 24); Patt 13/1888 (his application for US Social Security account reported dob 1889 Mar 17); Michael 11/1890. Both parents recorded as "cannot read." All children recorded as "read & write" & "not married." -- In addition, a Mary Hayes 12/1889 was enumerated as granddaughter in James & Jane Donohue family at 32 Liscannor. She was recorded as "read & write" & "not married." I wonder if she was John & Margaret's child born between Patt & Michael. == 1911 census, 45 Liscannor: John 72/1839; Margaret 69/1842; John 35/1876; Michael 21/1890. Both parents recorded as "cannot read," both children recorded as "read & write." For parents, "years the present marriage has lasted" recorded as "50" (abt 1861). Both children recorded as "not married." ##### Liscannor Family of Martin & Mary Hayes == 1901 census, 30 Liscannor: Martin age 50/birth yr abt 1851; Mary 40/1861; John 18/1883; Michael 11/1885; Kate 14/1887; Daniel 9/1892; Margaret 7/1894; Martin 5/1896; James 1/1900. Both parents & James recorded as "cannot read," all other children recorded as "read & write." All children recorded as "not married." -- In addition, a Patrick Hayes 26/1875 was enumerated as nephew in widow Bridget McMahon's (46/1855) household at 42 Liscannor. He was recorded as "cannot read" & "not married." I wonder if he was Martin & Mary's child born between Mary & John. == 1911 census, 38 Liscannor: Martin 71/1840; Annie 18/1893; Margaret 14/1897; Martin 12/1899; James 10/1901. Parent John recorded as "cannot read," & nothing recorded for "years the present marriage has lasted," suggesting that Margaret's absence from the list was because she had died. All children recorded as "read & write" & "not married." -- Where Annie was at the time of the 1901 census is as yet unknown. In the 1901 census, I found 43 Ann* Hayes ages 6 to 10 in all of Ireland. Five of them were recorded in Co. Clare, and all five were recorded as "daughter" in their households. The 1911 Annie in Martin's household was also recorded as "daughter." ##### With the 1901 census, for Co. Clare I got the number of my families' forenames and your Bridget's. Surname: Hayes Forename, using * as wildcard Bri* female 52 Dan* male 8 Ell* female 13 Jam* male 32 Joh* male 64 Kat* female 18 Cat* female 22 Marg* female 39 Mag* female 6 Mart* male 20 Mary female 87 Mic* male 53 Pat* male 60 ##### Several matters have made it difficult to track my families in Clare and Ireland, in their personal information on emigration passenger lists, in the US destinations recorded on their passenger lists, and on some other documents. -- The repeated forenames in related families, with children who shared forenames having similar ages. -- The frequent unreliability of their recorded ages. I suspect that at least some of the Hayeses did not know their actual birthdates, possibly because their parents could not read or write and, having many children, did not remember the dates accurately, or possibly because the parents and children did not have copies of their birth or baptismal records. And of course it's also possible that the official recording the age made a mistake. -- In my case of half-siblings traveling together, their use of whatever paternal surname they apparently thought would create the fewest questions from an official. To answer your post, though: I don't recognize any of your Co. Clare people, including Bridget Hayes (she's not the widow Bridget McMahon, is she?), or the places Parteen and Athlunkard. I guess it's possible your Bridget is related to my Liscannor Hayses, but it would take more wits that I have right now to figure that out! PJ, in Texas
