Hello Lists, I was searching for and not finding the pre-1900 immigration voyage of Delia Hayes from Liscannor, Co. Clare, to Boston, with destination Lowell, Mass. I knew she was in Lowell in 1900, but hours and hours of searching didn't reveal a passenger list with a good fit. Then I remembered that I had already researched the name Delia and found that it was a nickname for Odelia or Cordelia. Those formal names didn't fit Delia's family. So I searched further and found this wonderful long and detailed list: "Given Name Alternatives for Irish Research" http://content.bandzoogle.com/users/dennisahogan/files/GivenNameAlternatives.pdf >From it I learned that Delia can be a synonym for Bedelia, Bridget, and Fidelia. I already had information on a Bridget Hayes who was in some unknown way related to the Delia I was looking for. So bingo, I'm now sure that Bridget and Delia were the same person, Bridget on the voyage to the US and Delia when settled in Lowell. PJ in Texas

Look for the name Bridget evidently Delia was a diminutive. Delia seems to have been reasonably common usage in Clare.
