Hello, I am new to the list, but I am interested in finding any information on the family of Frank Rawlins and wife Annie, who came from Cork but raised their family in Co. Clare. Frank was a "games keeper". His children living with them in Ballycannan were Thomas, George, Rebecca and Annie. In 1934, there is a death record for Annie in Scarriff and two birth records for a George R. Rawlins and an Alan F. Rawlins. The maiden name of the mother is Ruddle. Frank Rawlins may have connected to the family of George Henry Rawlins and wife Harriet Orr of Co. Cork. Since I am descended from this line, I am actually looking to find others who may know more about our shared lineage. Thanks so much!! Bev W
Bev, Dates are as important as names and locations. I'd start with finding the family in 1901 and 1911 census which will give ages and birthplaces from which you should be able to get matches on civil registrations at FamilySearch. Unfortunately, the civil registrations don't give very full data. Then you might be able to get back further using various resources at Clare Library. You might also have some success using civil registrations to trace subsequent descendants. Peter in Sydney
Hi Peter, Frank Rawlins was 60 in the 1911 census. I am in the process of ordering his marriage record from Cork. I suspect he was one of the younger children of George Henry Rawlins and wife Harriet Orr of Cork. My hope is to find descendants from this line. I was thrilled to identify descendants in the 20th century still in Ireland. Tracking this family has been an adventure. My own gggrandfather came to the US in 1867. He married a German woman but unfortunately died in 1884, We have pictures that identify his family as that of George Henry Rawlins from Cork Ireland. My cousins and I have been learning family information in pieces for several years. I will certainly post what I can find. Thanks so much! Bev, This is an example where you haven't looked at all available data and have missed a number of vital clues. Have a look at both 1901 and 1911 census, viewing all information and looking at original documents. Although born in Cork, in 1901 he is listed as Frank Rawlins a gamekeeper in Limerick with six children. The last two are born in Limerick, so you can assume they moved counties about 1895. In 1911 he is listed as Francis Rawlins a gamekeeper in Cork with the four children you found. But if you tick the box for "All information" you'll find they've been married 23 years and have 6 children all living. Two have moved away and possible married. Based on age, it looks like Mabel in 1901 is known as Rebecca in 1911. I'll leave it to you to look again at the censuses and get the full data. Then try and find the corresponding BDM entries on civil registrations at Family Search. Peter in Sydney
