Hi I am looking for rela tives of Bridget Leyden b. 182 4 in Ennistymon. She was a school mistress in the poor house in 1843-45. I found minutes of her mentioned. She married Austin Carrigg & they came to USA NEW YORK 1847. I can not find her marriage. I am also trying to find her parents. Two of her sisters came to USA, Mary & Kate but I assume they got married but I don't know to who? I would appreciate any help. I understand no birth or marriage records were kept for these dates?
Ennistymon filmed records go from 1870 to 1880, too late for you. The Clare Heritage Centre doesn't specify what marriage records it has for the parish, so that route would be a gamble. Ennistymon Catholic parish includes Kilmanaheen and Clooney civil parishes. The Tithe Applotments on the National Archives site, done about the time Bridget was born, shows 13 Leydens and 5 Carrigs in Kilmanaheen, and Griffith's, done in the 1850s, shows 2 Leydens and 4 Carriggs. You might print out the Kilmanaheen townland map from the Clare Library site and then plot out where the various Leyden and Carrigg families lived, as people usually married near neighbors. Or Austin may have lived in or near the town of Ennistymon, where Bridget worked.
