    1. Re: [IRL-CLARE] IRL-CLARE Question on 1921 Freeholders List re COLLINS & PURCELL
    2. Hi list, In reviewing notes before my trip to Kilrush, Kilkee & surrounding areas of the Loophead (eg. Dough, Donoughboy, Ballyonan, Lisdeen, etc.) I came across this 1821 Freeholders list . My question is this: What is the relationship between a Tenant and the Freeholder? Example; TENANT, Daniel PURTELL; FREEHOLDERs: Michael, Anthony, Thomas & Connor COLLINS Place of Abode: Donoughboy Landlord: George FITZGERALD This is in reference to my search for my Maternal Gr-Gr-Grandfather, Michael COLLINS whose wife was Joanna PURCELL. He is known to have a brother Anthony COLLINS and a sister, Honora COLLINS O'BRIEN (Cornelius). I suspect that Thomas & Connor (Red) COLLINS are brothers as well as they are always listed with Michael or Anthony. (A James, John, Patrick "Patt" & a William are around the same areas as well). This is from comparisons of Griffiths Evaluations & Tithe Applotments. (Thanks to the wonderful Co. Clare Library site!) There is also a definite connection to MAGNERS from these areas though I suspect only as friends not kin. This connection was evident in St. Louis, MO, USA where Michael's son John & Anthony's sons Hugh & Anthony, born in Kilkee, emigrated and lived together by the early 1850s. In the 1860s, the known COLLINS & O'BRIEN cousins settled in Davenport, Scott Co. IA. One cousin, Nancy Ann COLLINS m. Richard ENRIGHT also from KILKEE. I would appreciate any suggestions as I prepare for my trip to the SW of Co. Clare. Jo Banks
