    1. [IRL-CLARE] MURPHY Surname Ennis Town and NSW Australia
    2. Mary Ellen Chambers
    3. Know this is a very broad request but figure there may be some suggested routes to follow.    In the early to mid 1900s, my Great Uncle Bill TOWNSEND was visited in Australia by a cousin Michael MURPHY from Clare.  Oral history has a connection of the surnames DALY, MURPHY, FITZPATRICK but I can find nothing in Irish Civil Records or USA OH for a MURPHY link.   My g grandmother was Honorah/Eleanor/Hannah nee DALY TOWNSEND.  She married my g grandfather at Limerick City in 1862; Fredrick John TOWNSEND an English seaman. My g g grandparents were Thomas and Margaret nee FITZPATRICK DALY of Smithstown (Barony of Lower Bunratty) and possibly Ennis Town, Mills Street. I have a civil birth certificate 1864 for Ellen TOWNSEND, parents Honora and Fredrick TOWNSEND for Ennis County Clare.  Reported by a Margaret DALY of Mill Street Ennis.   The time line for the above family is Thomas & Margaret DALY circa 1815 to about 1880   Honora and Fredrick John TOWNSEND circa 1840 to 1868 in County Clare Ireland.  This couple emigrated in 1868 to Cleveland, OH   Great Uncle Bill TOWNSEND was born circa 1872 Cleveland OH.  He and g gradmother Honora went to OZ to visit her older sister Margaret nee DALY TRATTLE in 1913/1914.  She returned to USA but Bill remained in Australia.  He fought in the Australian Imperial Army in WWI; seriously wounded in France.  He returned to Australia for the rest of his life. Never married; expired in 1954.   Since all trips over to visit family in Mayo & Wexford with research in County Clare, have found nothing on the family Civil or sacrament with the exception of the records mentioned.  MURPHY surname has been in oral history and incorrectly placed as g grandmother's surname on her OH COD.   Is there anyone on the list who has any connections to these surnames which might shed light or perhaps suggestions.  Griffith's Valuation, Tithe Applotments, Civil and sacramental records have been searched.  I have Bill's Australian military records and USA records; census, birth, work.   Thanking in advance for any ideas.   Mary Ellen Chambers

    3. You mention "Fredrick John Townsend, an English seaman". Have you looked for him there? Maybe his mother was a Murphy. Regards Brenda, Melbourne.
