    1. [IRL-CLARE] A Hehir or O'Hehir family from County Clare
    2. Margaret Wise
    3. This is my first query on the mailing list. I would like some information, if possible, about a family name O'Hehir from County Clare. The members of the family that I have some knowledge about are Ann O'Hehir, aged sixty years, Bridget O'Hehir, aged 20 years, Margaret or Mary O'Hehir, aged 19 years and Honora O'Hehir, age unknown. Each one of these ladies were on the convict transport, Earl Grey, and disembarked at Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land. They were convicted of stealing and/or receiving two cows on 27 February, 1849 at Clare. Each was sentenced to transportation for seven years and they embarked on the Earl Grey at Kingstown, Dublin arriving at Hobart Town on 9 May, 1850. They O'Hehir women committed their crime during the height of the Great Potato Famine and, luckily for all but Honora who died on the voyage, their arrival at Hobart Town was the beginning of a new life. Bridget and Margaret married and produced large families. What happened to their mother, Ann is unknown. Looking forward to receiving some information.
