    1. [IRL-CLARE] FW: Rankings of names per parish - Surname Mapping County Clare
    2. Larry Brennan
    3. UPDATE: Clare County Library have confirmed that they have been in a position to develop this new service. As I understand it the new surname mapping should become available later this year (2013). Jim Mc Namara has forwarded the following information: Grenham Irish Ancestors CD also has a tool to intersect surnames. It is not on the site but does provide the parish names where two surnames are found together and the number of families each. Here is an example of what is on Irish Times site. : http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ and then: - Click on Roman Catholic Parish Maps - Select the county of choice then the RC parish of choice. You will then see the record references. Under the references you get a link to click on that reads: - "Click here for a listing of placenames within this parish." Then you get a listing of the civil parishes with the RC parish, you click on the civil parish. The more is the adjoining parish names, Map ID number, and references you can buy for not much money. I would suggest that the web site is all you really need unless you want to find where two families are in the same parish. I haven't found that in the website yet though it may be there. I've done surname ranking by filmed parish records for Feakle (Marriages & Baptisms, 1860-1880) and for Scariff & Moynoe (Marriages 1852-1881) [Baptisms not complete yet for Scariff/Moynoe] Here is the table for Scariff marriages which I've posted online at Clare Library site. This was a complete transcription and may not be perfect but all records were transcribed though some names in any record may have been unreadable. There is also an all persons-placenames index here. http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/marriage_rec ords_scariff_moynoe_rc.htm Marriage Records for RC Parish of Scariff and Moynoe, 1852 - 1881 Ranking of Spouses' Surnames 30+ McNamara-MacNamara-Mac-Mack (32), Minogue (31) 25-29 Tuohy-Toohey (26) 20-24 Obrien (23),McMahon (22), Molony-Moloney (22) 15-19 Burke-Burk (16) 10-14 OFarrell-Farrell-Farrel (13), OCalaghan-OCallaghan-OCallahan-Calaghan-Callaghan-Callahan (11), Hogan (11), Corbett (10), Sheedy (10) 5-9 Brogan (9), Griffin (9), Noonan-Nunan (9), Rogers (9), Roughan (9), Conway (8), Malone (8), Slattery (8), Bleach (7), Dillane (7), Ryan (7), Doudle-Dowdle (6), Morony (6), Reeves-Ryves (6), Coffee-Coffey (5), Collins (5), Crotty (5), Dillon (5), Durac-Durack (5), Flanagan-Flanigan (5), Fennessy-Fenessy (5), Guerin (5), Hackett-Hacket (5), Haran-Haren-Harran-Harrin (5), Kennedy-Kenedy (5), Mulcahy (5), Riordan-Ryordan (5), Torpy-Torpey (5) 1-4 Boland (4), Brady (4), Cooney-Coony (4), Curran (4), Curreen (4), Dinan-Dynan (4), ODonnel-ODonnell (4), Flannery (4), McGrath (4), Hart-Harte (4), Jones (4), Kelly (4), Madden (4), Mungovan-Mungavin (4), Sullivan (4), Walsh (4), Balton-Bolton (3), Beston (3), Broderick (3), McCarthy (3), Clancy (3), Cleary (3), Duggan (3), Gleeson (3), Hayes (3), Horan (3), Hynes (3), Keane (3), Lynch (3), Power (3), Reddan (3), Sheridan (3), Smark (3), Tracy-Thracy (3), Bolton (2), Boyce-Boice (2), Brislane (2), Bunch (2), Canny (2), Carolan (2), Carroll (2), Conry (2), Craven (2), Daffy (2), Danaher (2), Davis (2), Dooly-Dooley (2), Doyle (2), Dwyer (2), Egan (2), McGennis (2), Goonane (2), Goony (2), OGorman-Gorman (2), Grogan (2), Guilfoyle (2), Halloran (2), Hanrahan (2), Hickey-Hickie (2), Kilfoyle-Kilfole (2), Leonard (2), Long (2), Melody (2), Miniter-Minniter (2), Mylan (2), Patterson (2), Perrill (2), Nugent (2), Reidy (2), Salmon-Sammon (2), Scanlon (2), Shanahan (2), Sheehan-Sheahan (2), Steward-Stewart (2), Ward (2), White (2), Wiley-Weily (2), Aburton (1), Barrington (1), Bennet (1), Bordman (1), Breman (1), Bugler (1), Campbell (1), Cosgrave(1), Costelloe (1), Comber (1), Connors (1), Culligan (1), Curry (1), Curtin (1), Darcy (1), ODea (1), Delany (1), McDermot (1), Dolan (1), Donnellan (1), Downes (1), McElligott (1), Finlay (1), Fitzgerald (1), Fitzpatrick (1), Flemming (1), Flynn (1), Garvey (1), Gaynor (1), Grady (1), Grennan (1), Gunning (1), Hagerty (1), Hallinan (1), Hannon (1), Harhan (1), Hartneidy (1), Hehir (1), Hennessy (1), Hill (1), Hopkins (1), Houragan (1), Keogh (1), Kerns (1), Laurence (1), Lenihan (1), Lohan (1), Lyddy (1), Lyon (1), Malley (1), OMara (1), Mason (1), Morrissy (1), Mullen (1), Mulley (1), Mulvihill (1), Nash (1), Navers (1), Neylan (1), McNurry (1), Parker (1), Purcell (1), Quigley (1), Regan (1), Ringrose (1), Rochford (1), Ronan (1), Scott (1), Shaughnessy (1), Shea (1), Skehan (1), Thornton (1), Tobin (1), Tubs (1), Wall (1), Watson (1), Welch (1) Here are the tables for the Feakle marriages.baptisms from the same site: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/marriage_rec ords_feakle_rc.htm SUMMARY, not sorted: Feakle RC Parish Marriage Records, 1860-1881 Title: Marriage Records for Feakle R C Parish Type: Marriage Records Dates: Sep 21, 1860 through Feb 24, 1881 (Complete) Place: Feakle Parish Main Family Names: (See alphabetical list below for complete list.) For example, towns & townlands as found in the main records: - 1820s Tithes - 1830s Tithes - 1851 Townland index from 1851 census - 1855 Griffith's Valuation - 1885 George B. Handran's Townlands in Poor Law Unions (my favorite as each SRD-Union is only a few pages and is subdivided by E.D., Barony, then Parish, then the townlands in the parish) - 1901/1911 Townland index from 1901/1911 censuses (not sure these are available but could be pulled out manually. I would expect this to be held by NAI but may be non-existent.) I tend to do this in a rough fashion for my area of interest when I transcribe a register just to have a list of possible placenames. Sometimes, even estate names are found. Lewis Topographical Dictionary could also be used as a source. There are other sources too such as Pender's census and even directories could be used. Even townlands mentioned in petty sessions; court records though incomplete provide a view into how people spelled the townland name at various times. Some are recorded in parish records too and can wildly vary in all the sources such as Feakle-Feikle-Teakle; Cloontyconnaught-Clounty-Clonty-Clontha; Lecarrow Lower-Lacarrow Lower-Laccaroe Lower-Lakaroe-Lackaroe-Lackarow. Some townlands disappear too over the records and are only found in older records and early civil registration.
