Hoping someone out there has info for the following family.......... Michael Moloney b.c. 1844 to Timothy (wife Mary?)Moloney - siblings could be Katty and Dan. Michael m. Hanora Mason b.c.1837 (1835?) to James Mason and Bridget Hayes. Marriage took place at the chapel in Parteen, Co. Clare Feb. 12, 1865 with witnesses James Dillon and James McNamara. Parteen is within walking distance to Limerick City. Marriage certificate from the registrar's District of Cooleycasey states residence of both bride and groom to be Knockballena turath - not sure if the second not capitalized word is part of the village name. Michael and Hanora's children are Marian b. Dec. 1865 and John b. Feb 1867. John was a national teacher married to Maria b. 1872 - children Kathleen, Mary G. and Francis - residence Ballyea South, Co. Clare. Living with them in 1901 was niece Mary A. Pilkington b. 1889. No information for Marian. Anxious to hear from someone! Judie Mason Chicago
Judie, Don't know whether this helps. My gr-grandfather, John St. John's sponsors at his baptism in Newmarket-on-Fergus, May 16, 1843, were Michael Donlon and Mary Moloney. His sister Mary was baptized in 1846 and had as her sponsors a Michael Dillon and Bridget Boland. May not be the same families. Had a Patrick St. John (uncle to John) marry a Mary Molony. Don St. John PS Hope the Cty Clare Library effort to list family names of Clare doesn't overlook the many St. John families (one as Singean) ________________________________________ From: irl-clare-bounces@rootsweb.com [irl-clare-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Judith Mason [judith.mason@me.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 9:50 AM To: Clare Clare; Clare Clare Projects; Limerick Limerick Subject: [IRL-CLARE] Moloney - Mason - Hayes - Pilkington Hoping someone out there has info for the following family.......... Judie, No specific details, but a few suggestions. Firstly, were Michael and Hanora in 1901 and 1911 census. That should confirm how many children and how many living. Secondly, with the scarcity or records you need to get maximum advantage from every little clue. Irish Civil Registrations rely on registration district rather than townland or parish. So get a district for births of Marian and John. It could be they married in the same district. Look for any other Moloney event in that district. Also you don't get spouses on marriages. 1911 census will tell how long they've been married, so give and idea of the year. Find John and then search for Maria using that date and district. That should give her maiden name. The same with Marian. To me it looks like her married name was possibly Pilkington. Check that in 1901 and 1911 census. Also try find their marriage and any other children. Using Civil Registrations on Family Search you should conceivably be able to find deaths of Michael and Hanora and also marriage for their grandchildren That will give a wider array of details on which to expand your search. Use those details to check for submitted trees on Ancestry. It seems a lot of work, but it does produce rewards. And much more satisfying when you do it yourself. Unfortunately it doesn't always lead to reconnecting with relatives. Peter
Judie, Would you check your 1901 census data about John & Maria Moloney and Mary Pilkington? Unless I've hit a wrong button, I couldn't find any of them. Let me know of any variant spelling or age differences. I did find a John and Maria in 1911. Did he retire to farming? Peter
